Georgia Tech got it’s second commitment of the year when 6’5” shooting guard Asanti Price announced that he is coming to Georgia Tech. Price, a three-star recruit from Columbia, SC, also has an offer from Kansas State was drawing a lot of interest from other major schools with scholarships still open. He joins Jordan Usher as the second commit for 2019 and the first incoming high school player.
In some ways Price is similar to Moses Wright. Like Wright, Price had a late growth spurt that moved him from a lower level D1 recruit into someone coveted by power schools. He also played most of his career at smaller schools before moving to a big program his senior year. Unlike Wright, Price has been a basketball player for quite a while, so he’s not nearly as raw. The best part of Asanti’s game is his outside shot which has been a huge need for Georgia Tech for years. The Yellow Jackets have had a spate of sharpshooting recruits that have come and struggled to shoot at the college level. Hopefully Price breaks that trend. The other thing to notice is that he’s tiny. At 6’5” he plays at just 175 pounds. Hopefully he is able to put on some good weight in the GT weight room and learns the tricks that can make skinny players great college defenders.
Georgia Tech now has 2 scholarship slots remaining. I expect at least one of those to be a graduate transfer and at least one to be a big man. Georgia Tech is still in on some late deciding high school recruits and commits of schools that lost their coaches may also be up for grabs.
