Coach Collins and the Georgia Tech coaching staff have added a talented player at a position of need to the 2020 class. A local prospect, Tyson Meiguez plays for Creekside high school with a number of other highly regarded 2020 prospects.

With only 1 LB signed in the 2019 recruiting class, LB needed to be a focus of the 2020 class, along with DT and OL. Meiguez committed to Tech over offers from a slew of Power-5 schools, including Duke, Tennessee, Louisville, and Baylor among others.
Meiguez is a high 3-star prospect per both Rivals(5.7) and 247Sports Composite(.8739). He would have been the second-highest rated prospect in Tech’s 2019 recruiting class, behind only Jamious Griffin.
What stands out on film immediately is how smart a player Meiguez is. Only a HS junior, he knows not to over-commit in pursuit, knows how to take good angles, and understands leverage and how to take on blockers based on what his assignment is during the play.
Athletically, Meiguez is long, with excellent range. He fits the mold of a versatile linebacker that Coach Collins has emphasized since he first came to the flats. One of the first players Collins recruited after getting the job was Cornelius Evans, who displayed similar versatility. Meiguez performs a number of roles for the Creekside defense. He drops into zone coverage, rushes the passer, spies mobile QBs, and takes on blockers as an inside LB. While OLB is likely his best fit due to his range, he can do a little bit of everything. He’ll be a perfect fit.
Let’s Welcome Tyson to the Flats!
