Let’s not waste time here, Syracuse shot the lights out and would have beaten just about any team in America today. The Orange (5-4, 1-1) blew out Georgia Tech (4-4, 1-1) 97-63 on Saturday afternoon at McCamish Pavilion behind hot 3 point shooting.
Cuse dominated this game from the jump, making 14 of their 33 three-point attempts, getting 33 and 26 points from Elijah Hughes and Buddy Boeheim respectively. When things like that happen, nothing else really matters. The Orange also controlled the game from the charity stripe, hitting 25 of their 30 free throws.
On the other end, the Jackets failed to find their footing against the Cuse zone, with top players James Banks and Michael Devoe have poor afternoons. Devoe went just 2-12 from the field for 7 points and Banks finished with just 8 points, 3 rebounds and zero blocked shots. The best player on the floor for Tech was Moses Wright who led the team with 17 points and 9 rebounds. It was another day of wasted possessions for the Jackets as they shot just 7-18 from the free throw line and turned the ball over 19 times. They did also have 19 assists which was a bit of a bright spot including 6 from both Devoe and Khalid Moore.
Overall, there’s not too much else to say about this game. Every season there will be a couple games where a team will get hot and stay hot the entire game as there’s nothing you can do about it as an opponent. The frustrating part for Tech will be that many of the threes Syracuse hit were deep or contested and they came in shooting at just a 32% clip from behind the arc.
This is game where you just throw away the film. Tech now has a whole week to prepare for Kentucky at Rupp Arena next Saturday.
