Today marks the 150th anniversary of college football. The first college football game was between Rutgers and Princeton. That game took place on November 6, 1869. To commemorate the event, this AJC article provides a nostalgic look back at Georgia Tech’s first football team. That Tech team went 0-3 in its first season back in 1892. The following season they fared a little better. Interestingly enough, they would get their first ever victory against some school from Athens.
Georgia Tech’s center, William Lay III was named as one of 83 nominees for the Burlsworth Trophy. The announcement of the nominees for the 10th annual award was made yesterday by the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation. The award is meant to recognize the most outstanding college football player who began their career as a walk-on. The winner will be announced on December 9th. Lay, who is a sophomore, isn’t the first Yellow Jacket to be nominated for the award. Former Yellow Jacket Sean Bedford was a nominee and won the award in 2010.
The kickoff time was announced for Georgia Tech’s game against. Virginia Tech. It will be at 3:30 PM on November 16th. You can watch the game on one of the regional sports networks.
Georgia Tech’s final road game of the 2019 season will be this week as the team travels to Charlottesville to take on the Virginia Cavaliers. This is assuming that bowl games count as road games and, of course, that Tech won’t be playing in one this year.
You’ve got to love the computer models. The one from this article has Tech covering against Virginia this weekend. As the article points out, the Yellow Jackets are huge underdogs (+16). Another interesting prediction from the model has James Graham passing for 150 yards and a touchdown. What are you predictions for Saturday’s games?
