Technical Tidbits 10/17: Hurricanes Coach Eyeing Revenge Against Yellow Jackets

Miami’s Manny Diaz wants revenge; Geoff Collins’ weekly press conference and more.

Interesting article regarding Miami Hurricanes’ coach Manny Diaz. This quote in particular caught my eye:

“This is a hit list game for us,” Diaz said on Hurricane Hotline. “This team beat us a year ago with all of the same players. That has to put a bad taste in our mouth and should impact our motivation and buy in for this game.”

Having the same players yet an entirely different scheme that calls for different talent seems to be a slight oversight that was omitted from that observation by Diaz. Well, to be fair, he does go on in the article to mention some of Tech’s advantages with its mobile quarterbacks. Still, this seems like an attempt to motivate the Hurricanes by making this into a revenge game. At 1-2 in the ACC, Miami does have more at stake. Though a win on the road in Miami would be a big morale boost for the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech head coach Geoff Collins held his weekly pre-game press conference on Tuesday. Here’s a few of the highlights from that:

  • Jordan Mason rushed for over 100 yards for the first time; Collins credits Coach Tashard Choice for helping bring him along
  • The offensive line is still a work in progress. Collins recognizes Coach Brent Key’s efforts to get that unit working, despite losing key players to injuries this year
  • Assessing the team at the season’s midpoint, Collins emphasises Tech’s culture and the process they’re putting together
  • Collins recognizes James Graham’s potential to be a leader and key player for Tech. In all likelihood, he’ll be getting another start this Saturday against Miami

Well, there wasn’t an awful lot of action last week regarding Tech’s pro-golfers. Stewart Cink and Cameron Tringale had a pretty good showing in the Houston Open. Other than that, there’s not much to update you on.

This might be an interesting move to take note of. The offensive line has had its struggles this season given that its pass protection has been less than stellar. This is in spite of several injuries to key starters. Hopefully this move can help shore up that unit. #GoJackets
