Technical Tidbits 10/14: Fallout From Tech’s Loss in Durham

Relive it if you wish.

NCAA Football: Georgia Tech at Duke James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

The game started off well, but quickly devolved into something not so good. Duke was able to score 38 unanswered points in the first half to quickly take things out of hand. The second half was better, but still not good, as the Jackets ended up falling by 18 (and failed to cover the spread by half a point). Collins & co. will look to rebound in Miami this weekend, with the Hurricanes coming off of a win against Virginia.

This article goes a little bit deeper into Saturday’s loss. One major takeaway was that the offensive line struggled, a lot. The only good part about the OL is that it has one of the top position coaches in the nation, Brent Key. Although Key can’t really do much this year, the improvement from the first game against Clemson is definitely noticeable, just not enough to be game-changing.

I disagree with this article a lot, compared to the Clemson game, the entire offense is worlds better right now. The QB situation is looking pretty good, with James Graham showing flashes of potential and having solid games, and the RBs have been consistently good through the year, as Jordan Mason has taken on a big role. The pass-catchers haven’t been terrible so far, it’s just that nothing for the entire team has clicked for a whole game yet. One game it’s the defense, the next it’s the offense, inconsistent play has killed the Jackets. But in a season where wins don’t really matter, I’ve liked the improvements I’ve seen from Tech.

As I stated earlier, on Saturday the Jackets failed to cover a 17.5 point spread by half a point. This week, they have a greater margin for error as the opening lines from Vegas have Miami as a 19.5 point favorite. One stat in the article that I don’t like is that in Tech’s last nine games, they are 0-8-1 against the spread. That’s terrible, because as the saying goes, “Good teams win, but great teams cover.”

I’m sorry to Jalen, but this is only the second best thing to come out of the weekend. More on the best thing in just a few sentences. In this story, Huff seems to be very excited about coming to Atlanta after his high school career, and has a good relationship with the coaching staff. That’s all you can want in a recruit (besides good play), I can’t wait to see him on The Flats!

Question of the Day: Any early predictions for the Miami game?
