So far, Georgia Tech has not had a good football season. We all know that. But a silver-lining of the poor season is the immense amount of playing time many underclassmen are receiving. Even though they may be losing a lot now, due to the experience they gain, that should be able to translate into wins three and four years in the future. It’s (kind of) looking up for the Jackets.
The punishments handed down by the NCAA to Georgia Tech surprised many people. ACC Commissioner John Swofford was one of those who were surprised, and gave some of his thoughts out at ACC Basketball Media Day on Tuesday. There wasn’t much to be said about the appeals process from his part, but he seems to be watching it with a close eye.
On the docket next are two tennis articles, and I decided to give you guys the bad news first. Kenya Jones is one of GT Women’s Tennis’ best players, and as a senior is one of the team leaders. Unfortunately, after making it to the main draw of the 2019 ITA All-American Championships, Jones fell to Vanderbilt’s Georgia Drummy. Even though she didn’t go too far in the tournament, she played well enough to make it to a major event, and looks to build upon that experience in team play this season.
On the bright side, in the men’s version of the same tournament Jones was defeated in, Tech freshman Andres Martin bested his first round opponent, Tulsa’s Kody Pearson, and looks to advance further into the tournament. This is a big event for a freshman, good luck Andres!
Congratulations DJ! Although the Falcons might not be doing too well right now, it’s great for you to be back on a local team. Keep it up!
In case, you know, you might be looking for something else to watch, the ACC Network will feature Georgia Tech in its series on traditions at ACC schools. Airs at 9 p.m., and will be rebroadcast eight more times, including thrice tomorrow.— Ken Sugiura (@ksugiuraajc) October 9, 2019
I would definitely recommend watching one of the three reruns of the Georgia Tech traditions show on the ACCN today. It’s better than the Giants-Patriots NFL game.
Question of the Day: How depressed are you about the Braves?
