ATLANTA, GEORGIA - Women’s basketball turns in another 1-1 week, and other news.

Women’s Basketball

Thursday, January 11th: Georgia Tech (12 - 4) knocks off Duke (8 - 7), 70-64.

Sunday, January 13th: Louisville (15 - 1) defeats Georgia Tech (12 - 5), -.

Once again, Tech won the midweek matchup, this week in the friendlier confines of home. Once again, Tech dropped the weekend game to a top-3 team, this week on the road. Tech’s first game, against a mediocre Duke team, came down to the wire, thanks to a big late comeback by the visitors. Lorela Cubaj and Elizabeth Dixon both netted double-doubles, and the latter ended a Tech scoring deficit that had allowed the Blue Devils to close within one point of the Yellow Jackets. Tech was able to close it out though, winning a game they’ve had an occasional problem of letting slip away in the past.

Sunday, though, wasn’t as successful for the Jackets, as they took on their second straight top three team in as many weeks of ACC play. The Jackets played much better this week, though their performance against Notre Dame wasn’t too bad, circumstances considered. The Jackets went on the road and the Cardinals were unable to consider the game iced until there were less than forty seconds left in the game. A lot of close, high percentage shots didn’t fall, but Lousiville never really shut the door on Tech until the last few minutes of the fourth quarter, regardless.

This week: Tech heads up Interstate 85 to Clemson to take on the Tigers on the lake, before returning to Atlanta to face Syracuse.

Track and Field

Not much of note from this weekend’s Clemson Invitational, save for the usual strong hurdles performance from Jeanine Williams and a few solid 600 meter runs. The highlight of the meet, of course, was Avery Bartlett’s win and school record performance in the 1000 meter, and his time takes the cake as the fastest recorded time thus far, albeit quite early in the season.

This week: Tech’s back in action this weekend in Nashville.
