ATLANTA, GEORGIA - Hurricane Florence made this column much shorter than it was originally going to be. Instead of two tennis tournaments, the Jackets played none. However, volleyball was still live on the Flats and the mysterious fall softball tuneups have returned, as well.

Women’s Tennis

This weekend’s tennis competitions were both rained out due to Hurricane Florence. The Jackets will be back in action in a few weeks.

Volleyball

Friday, September 14th: Georgia Tech (10 - 2) holds off the school in Athens (8 - 2), 25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 13-25, 25-12 (3 - 2).

Saturday, September 15th: Georgia Tech (11 - 2) defeats Arkansas (6 - 4), 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17 (3 - 1).

For a complete recap of Friday night’s game against the school out east, click here. It was truly an excellent win, their seventeenth in the last twenty tries against their rivals.

The Jackets, however, weren’t content with just one solid victory over an SEC school. Those, after all, just mean more. Yes, I will beat that horse until it’s glue. It’s kind of a habit around here. Anyways, the Jackets came out strong and won two of the first three sets against the Razorbacks, all of which essentially seemed like tossups. Thanks to strong play from the freshmen and the usual suspects, though lacking defensive specialist Maddie Tippett, the Jackets went into the fourth set with the advantage. They saved their best play for last, putting their guests down easier in the fourth to seal the match and preserve their perfect 10-0 record in the comforts of their home court. It was also good to see sophomore Sam Knapp work back into the rotation more this game, as well as continued strong play from Mariana Brambilla and Mikaila Dowd. As those two freshmen go, so it seems does the team.

This Week: The Jackets ship out to Boston and Syracuse for their first weekend of conference play.

Softball

Softball won their first fall tuneup 17-2 over Southern Union this Sunday.

This Week: The Jackets host Anderson at 1:00 PM again this Sunday.
