Yellow Jacket Roundup: A Return to Normalcy

Brace yourself...the postseason is coming.

Softball takes some hacks in Boston.
Danny Karnik/Georgia Tech Athletics

CHICAGO, IL. - A light weekend of just Track and Field, Softball, and Baseball on the Flats. However, we did have a bunch of graduates, so congrats to them!

No. 4 Women’s Tennis

Paige Hourigan
Johnnise Renaud

Paige Hourigan heads to the individual draw for the NCAA singles title and will be joined by her doubles partner, Kenya Jones. Otherwise, same story as last week.

This Week: Nothing until the opening games of the NCAA regionals at home on the Flats. Tech plays the 11th at 3:00pm, and admission is free.

No. 4 Men’s Golf

Tyler Joiner
Jacob Joiner
Chris Petefish
Michael Pisciotta

Same story as last week: the Jackets are the top seed in the Raleigh regional. The low five finishers and the lowest individual not on those teams will head to Stillwater to play for the title May 25-30. Tech has not finished worst than fifth in any tournament so far this season.

This week: Look for the Jackets to be back in action on the 14th of May in Raleigh.

Emily Anderson
Malea Bell
Kendall Chadwick
Kelsey Chisholm
Draven Sonnen

Friday, May 4th: Boston College (29-21) outlasts Georgia Tech (27-24), 8-6 (10).

Saturday, May 5th: Georgia Tech (28-24) blanks Boston College (29-22), 6-0.

Saturday, May 5th: Boston College (30-22) escapes Georgia Tech (28-25), 4-3.

  • Tech scored first in the top of the first frame, thanks to a Cameron Stanford two run home run. In the top of the fourth, Crosby Huckabay and Lily Hooper walked, followed by an RBI single from Breanna Roper, scoring both. Another single from Kelsey Chisholm scored Roper, giving Tech a 5-0 lead. The Eagles got four back in the fifth, before Tech scored their sixth and final run from a Malea Bell solo home run. Boston College tied it in the bottom of the seventh, and there it stayed until the tenth inning, when they added two more runs, sealing the Jackets’ loss.
  • The freshman Roper knocked her second home run, and second grand slam, of the season to blow this game open. Leading 1-0 in the third, Roper sent a ball over the fence scoring Stanford, Katie Krzus, and Huckabay. The Jackets added another in the sixth, when a Huckabay double scored Draven Sonnen for the final tally.
  • Boston College jumped out to a 4-0 lead, scattering scores across the first few innings. Chisholm knocked a three run home run with Roper and Saige Pye on base in the sixth, but that is as close as Tech would get in the 4-3 loss.

Softball earned its first trip to the ACC tournament since 2014, snagging the sixth seed in the conference championship, which they are hosting at Mewborn Field. Unlike usual, tickets are not free and can be purchased here. Tech plays the nightcap of the second round against North Carolina, who they took two of three from two weeks ago on the Flats. With several teams bunched together in the standings, snagging the sixth seed puts the Jackets in nice position to make a little run at the ACC title this week.

This Week: 7:30 against North Carolina Thursday under the lights.
