Technical Tidbits 11/30: Whisenhunt rumors and Johnson’s retirement press conference

New, 3 comments

Conflicting reports continue to swirl around Georgia Tech’s involvement with Ken Whisenhunt.

It seems to have been confirmed all but officially that Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt is a candidate for Tech’s head coaching job, and ESPN has reported that the former Yellow Jacket will interview for the post this weekend. There have been conflicting reports, with some saying that Whisenhunt is flattered but disinterested and others saying that he wouldn’t even consider leaving the Chargers until the NFL’s offseason. Waiting that long would be particularly damaging given the upcoming early signing day.

If you missed Paul Johnson’s retirement press conference, the link above has the full video and audio as well as some images of the event. Johnson had a number of interesting things to say in what was one of his final interviews as head coach at Tech, with the formal final interview probably coming in or around bowl season.

As Georgia Tech continues expanding to the East and West, it has now finalized a deal to purchase the historic Randall Brothers headquarters on Marietta Street for an impressive $36 million. The building, which the Atlanta Business Chronicle says shares the same “bones” as recent developments such as Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market, will presumably be repurposed by the Institute for a currently unknown purpose.
