Technical Tidbits 10/30: Marshall to Retain Starter Role

In which you have a few more days to finalize your Miami tailgating plans

TaQuon Marshall to Maybe Start vs UNC, Potentially

During his Sunday conference call, Coach Paul Johnson said that the starting QB job for this week’s game would go to senior TaQuon Marshall. Well, he kind of said that. When asked about the state of the starting position Johnson said that he didn’t see why Marshall wouldn’t start but added “We’ll work through that” and “They’re both going to play.” Marshall was cleared to play last week against Virginia Tech but was extremely limited in practice, leading to Johnson giving the starting nod to redshirt freshman Tobias Oliver. Oliver has looked very good when given opportunities but runs a limited playbook. I’m not surprised that Marshall, the senior captain, is expected to start against UNC but it will be interesting to see what Oliver’s role looks like when both QBs are healthy.

Georgia Tech vs Miami Six-Day Optioned

Put your Miami tailgating plans on hold. ESPN and the ACC announced on Monday that the six-day hold would be exercised for November 10th’s home game against Miami. Along with Miami-GT, the Worldwide Leader also announced holds on Clemson-Boston College and Virginia Tech-Pitt. Basically every meaningful game ESPN has the rights to was optioned for that weekend so it’s tough to read the tea leaves and make an educated guess as to the start time but a win in Chapel Hill can only improve the start time and/or network.

Braun, Oliver earn ACC Weekly Awards

After a dominat win over Virginia Tech, a pair of Yellow Jackets were honored in the ACC Weekly Awards. Junior guard Parker Braun was awarded the ACC Offensive Linemen of the Week while redshirt freshman QB Tobias Oliver was awarded co-Rookie of the Week with Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence. Braun earned his fourth career Offensive Linemen of the Week award as the top lineman on an offense that piled up 465 rushing yards on the Hokies. Oliver was the major benefactor of Braun’s performance, rushing for 215 yards in his first start.

Uniforms Revealed for UNC

Georgia Tech unvieled another new uniform combination for this weekend’s tilt against North Carolina:

The Jackets will wear white helmets, the normal road jersey (white jerseys with navy numerals), and navy pants on Saturday. This will be just the second time Tech has worn navy pants in recorded history, after the Duke game earlier this season (worn with same jersey but gold helmets).
