Georgia Tech is looking to make it 3 straight against the Hokies in what would be a third straight upset. Last year GT had a big performance by the defense while the offense made some big plays, three over 60 yards. VT has had their weakest of defense in recent memory so far, but with Bud Foster prowling the sideline and a bye week to prepare Tech should take nothing for granted. Getting some more big plays will be key this year against the always aggressive Hokie D.
This was an unexpected commitment. The consensus reaction that I saw was “What? Who?”. If the name doesn’t ring a bell you aren’t alone. Divenko is currently enrolled at Palm Beach State College (Juco) after being lightly recruited in the 2018 recruiting class. He had an impressive summer and has a solid size (6’9”) and skill combination. I’ve found rumors online that other major schools were recruiting him, but I can’t find anything solid on it. He would come to Tech starting next year and would have 3 years of eligibility. This would be Tech’s first basketball JUCO transfer since 1991.
In other basketball news, Josh Pastner and Texas transfer James Banks are applying to get Banks eligible this season. Transfer rules have been relaxed in recent years which gives some hope that he could receive a favorable ruling. Given Tech’s total lack of frontcourt depth this would be a big boost to this year’s squad. Banks has two years remaining of eligibility.
