We’ve finally made it to the home opener

Duuuuuuuuvaaaaaaa- wait, wrong Jacksonville AND state. Normally a game against an FCS team should be no sweat for Georgia Tech. But Jacksonville State is a pretty good FCS team, and they’ve had two weeks to rest up for this game, while Tech has had five days. All this adds up to a stiff challenge from the ‘Cocks.

Yes, that was too easy. No, I will not apologize.

Lest you still somehow think JSU’s roster is filled out by a bunch of scrubs, keep in mind their top weapon on offense is a former 5-star recruit who transferred from Auburn after last season, and he’s got a lot left in the tank. I’m just saying, you may want to bring your paper bags for breathing into on Saturday.

It’s always basketball season in the ACC. Basketball doesn’t start for another two months, but that’s plenty of time to get excited now that the full ACC schedule has been released. Unsurprisingly, it does Tech few favors, with both games against Notre Dame early, an opening in the second week (this year being filled by a contest vs. Yale), and a game at UNC on just a day of rest. But hey, it’s year two of Josh Pastnerball, and year one was fun as hell, so let’s see where this ride takes us.

Spikey-smash. Over on the hardwood (single-net version), the volleyball team fought back from a first-set loss to down visiting Xavier in four yesterday, snapping a three-game skid. The Spiking Jackets (I still can’t think of a better nickname for volleyball, please leave your suggestions in the comments) face a doubleheader today before getting the rest of the weekend off; they’ll face the North Florida Ospreys at 1 pm before turning around and squaring off against Kansas State at 8. Both games will be watchable online on ACC Network Extra.

Are we all ready to get cozy in Bobby Dodd again?
