OG Mike Maye is Commit #11

This big Alabama guard is the second commitment today

NCAA Football: Georgia Tech at Georgia Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Mike Maye committed to the Yellow Jackets early this afternoon. He is from Hoover, Alabama and was seemingly lightly recruited and was rated as a 3-star recruit by the 247 composite, although he has only been rated by one service. He chose Tech over interest from South Alabama, Western Kentucky, and Duke. He joins Harrison Jump as the second offensive lineman in this class. While neither Jump nor Maye was a highly touted recruit, Tech has had success in the past with under the radar lineman. This year’s starting line features two such players, Jahaziel Lee and Kenny Cooper. Hopefully these guys can continue this trend.

Film Study

Mike Mayes is big. 6’3” 290 pounds according to the recruiting services. With some college weight room time he looks like he could easily get over three hundred. His high school played in the highest level of Alabama high school football, but there are many times in these highlights when you can see him demolish smaller linebackers and defensive ends. They did not stand a chance against him. He does get too high and does have a little trouble keeping his hands on defenders, but both of those can be worked on. He shows some athleticism which should help as he learns cut blocking. His highlights do not show too much traditional pass blocking, but those that do show decent form.

Welcome to the Flats Mike Maye! This recruiting class is filling up quick.
