Yesterday, Bleacher Report published a feature on the journey of Georgia Tech’s own Joe Anoa’i’s journey from branding his own bicep with a heated coat hanger in high school to All-ACC Defensive Lineman on the Flats to Roman Reigns, three-time World Heavyweight Champion and WWE Superstar. If I’m being completely honest, I did not follow Tech during Anoa’i’s time playing for the Yellow Jackets and I don’t know anything about wrestling but it’s pretty cool to see stories like this about Tech alumni succeeding in major ways.
While not anywhere near as high profile as Anoa’i/Reigns, former Georgia Tech punter Durant Brooks received a nice profile in the Macon Telegraph on Sunday. Brooks will be inducted into the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame this fall, a well-deserved honor for possibly the best punter in Georgia Tech history. The story includes his recollection of his first game on the Flats, the 2006 matchup against a highly ranked Notre Dame team, as well as his journey from all around star at a small high school to holding several punting records at Georgia Tech.
Some quick hits to close today’s Tidbits:
- Vote for your favorite T-Shirt design for the #GTGoldOut September 9th against Jacksonville State. Of the given options, I think I like C the best but a combination with the front of C and the back of B would look pretty slick.
- Christopher Eubanks and Andrew Li were both named to the 2017 All-ACC Academic Men’s Tennis team on Monday. This recognition caps off a huge season for Eubanks, who also took home ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year. Li had a nice season on the court too, taking home third team All-ACC honors.
- Georgia Tech’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge game against Northwestern has been set for Tuesday, November 28th. The time and network will be announced at a later date. The marquee game that day will undoubtedly be Louisville-Purdue but an argument could be made that GT-NW is the day’s second best.
