The men’s tennis team’s season has ended, having fallen to Florida last weekend in the Gainesville regional, but the women’s team is still alive and looking to grab their second NCAA title. The 8-seeded Racket Jackets face the 9-seeded Oklahoma State Cowgirls at 7 p.m. in Athens in the round of 16, with the winner going on to face either Texas A&M or top seeded Florida in the quarterfinal. No coverage information was available at the time of this writing.
In track & field news, the Athletic Jackets are sending a plethora of athletes out to Lexington, Kentucky for the NCAA East regional preliminaries next week. That’s a pretty cruel sentence, but you gotta do what you gotta do in hopes of winning NCAA glory. The East Preliminaries are set to start next Thursday, May 25, and run through Saturday.
A 5-run 6th inning made all the difference for the Diamond Jackets last night as they doubled up the 8th ranked Virginia Cavaliers at the Rusty C. Starting pitcher Xzavion Curry got roughed up for five earned runs in six innings but the Tech bats were able to make up for all that and then some with help from three UVA errors. The win clinched a spot in next week’s ACC baseball championship, thanks in part to Notre Dame dropping a decision to Boston College in Chestnut Hill. The series continues tomorrow at 6 p.m. with the Danny Hall game (be sure to get there early to steal your own base) and concludes Saturday with the Senior Day game with festivities starting just after noon; both games can be seen on ACC Network Extra and be heard over radio waves on WREK.
I’m still inundated with weddings. Someone help me find a house?
