There’s this little thing called the NFL draft that started yesterday; you might have heard of it? The Cleveland Browns avoided Brownsing this thing by taking Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett with the first pick. Fortunately, the Chicago Bears were there to take the Browns’ place, giving up several future picks to move up all of one spot and take UNC QB Mitch Trubisky at second. Deshaun Watson had to wait all the way to 12th! Some team* drafted Patrick Mahomes before him! Over 1 million people watch this bizarre, nonsensical, socialistic spectacle every year, folks.
*Before you all flood my inbox: yes, I know, it was KC.
The ACC tennis championships opened up on Wednesday over in the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College but you haven’t missed anything, Tech fans: both the men’s and women’s team grabbed double-byes into the tournament and have been waiting until today to start play. The #4 seeded men’s team takes on #5 Duke at 1 p.m. this afternoon, while the #3 seeded women’s team will face #6 seed Wake Forest at 4. No TV coverage today, but the semifinals (tomorrow) and final (Sunday) for both tournaments will be available for streaming on ACC Network Extra.
(Oh, and if you’re wondering, “why the heck would they hold the ACC tournament in Rome??” This is why.)
Danny Hall’s crew gets a breather from conference play this weekend as they play a three game set against Illinois-Chicago in the Windy City. (They’re very familiar with winning baseball championships, as you know.) As with last week, weather forecasts have forced some last minute changes to the schedule: game 1 of today’s now-doubleheader is at 1 p.m. with Tech’s Xzavion taking the mound against UIC’s Jake Dahlberg; game 2 is set to start at 4:30 with Keyton Gibson facing the Flames’ Reid Birlingmair. Jake Lee is set to pitch the finale tomorrow at 2 p.m. You can follow this weekend’s action on ESPN3 and WREK.
Enjoy your weekend, because once it’s over..... it’s gonna be May.
