The injury news just keeps piling up for Josh Pastner’s struggling Yellow Jackets.
Per the AJC’s Ken Sugiura, freshman point guard Jose Alvarado may not be able to suit up versus Notre Dame in this afternoon’s ACC opener. His absence would be a huge hit to a Tech team which is already reeling from lingering injuries to a pair of other starters in Josh Okogie and Ben Lammers, neither of whom have been 100% for much of the season.
Jose Alvarado "questionable to doubtful." Because this is how Tech's season is going.https://t.co/dF7kvj16p8— Ken Sugiura (@ksugiuraajc) December 29, 2017
With Alvarado’s status up in the air and backup guard Josh Moore already ruled out, Tech may have to lean heavily on graduate transfer Brandon Alston to play critical minutes against the season’s toughest opponent to date. The team’s NCAA Tournament hopes are all but shot already, with the only hope to salvage a decent season coming in ACC play against an incredibly difficult schedule. That road to respectability begins this afternoon against a talented Notre Dame team and looks all the more menacing with a bevy of critical players sidelined for the Jackets.
A New York native, Alvarado has averaged 13.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists for Josh Pastner and the Yellow Jackets in his first season on the Flats. Without those contributions, Tech’s shot at winning decreases dramatically.
