The least surprising transfer of the entire offseason was announced yesterday, with Ted Roof’s son TD Roof announcing that he will be joining the Indiana Hoosiers for the remainder of his college football career. The decision comes just days after Ted Roof resigned to take an associate head coaching job at NC State, ending his five-year run as defensive coordinator at Tech. TD Roof’s transfer, while it isn’t ideal, likely won’t have too much of an impact thanks to Tech’s relative depth at linebacker and the fact that Roof’s main contributions came on special teams this season.
Meanwhile in the world of basketball, Tech’s women continued to show the men how hoops are scored by nearly upending No. 3 Louisville at McCamish Pavilion. It was a tie game with just seconds remaining, but the Jackets just couldn’t pull it out against Louisville guard and Douglasville native Asia Durr thanks to her absurd 38 point outpouring. The Cardinals improved to 15-0 on the season while Tech fell to 11-3 with its only other two losses coming against UGA and Baylor.
The men’s team will kick off ACC play tomorrow with a game versus Notre Dame, one of few ACC teams against which the Jackets have been pretty successful over the past few years or so. The guy to watch out for will be forward/center/everything bagel Bonzie Colson, one of the absolute best players in the nation despite having no real position. Just watch the game and you’ll see that he’s an amazing player but for absolutely no reason. I’m predicting 30/17 for him against Tech’s sad, sad defense in this one. Best of luck, Jackets.
