Junior linebacker Brant Mitchell made his return to the lineup on Saturday against Virginia Tech a productive one, earning himself ACC Co-Linebacker of the Week. After sustaining an injury against Miami, Mitchell missed all but one series of the next three games. Against the Hokies, he led the Yellow Jackets with 9 tackles, including a sack, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a pass breakup. Mitchell shared the ACC’s weekly honor with Miami sophomore LB Zach McCloud. Mitchell has been a key component of the Georgia Tech defense this season and they’ll need to keep him on the field during these final two weeks of the season.
On Monday, ESPN and the ACC announced that the 2017 edition of Clean, Old Fashioned Hate would get prime billing on ABC. The only question was if it would kick off the day or serve as the nightcap to rivalry weekend. The final decision on the game’s start time will be announced this weekend. Looking around the rest of the country, it looks like the other contenders for the 8:00 pm timeslot are Oklahoma-West Virginia, Notre Dame-Stanford, and Washington State-Washington. If I were to hazard a guess I’d say that one of the two west coast games is more likely to land the primetime kickoff. On the other hand, Kirk Herbstreet calls the 8:00 ABC games and will almost assuredly be in Auburn Saturday morning with College Gameday for a Top 10 Iron Bowl matchup. Getting from Auburn to Atlanta is a lot easier than getting from Auburn to the West Coast. Regardless of the timeslot, getting on ABC is great exposure for the team and something to be excited about.
It’s Tuesday which means we have another CFP Rankings release to look forward to tonight. I haven’t given it as much thought as in past weeks but here are my predictions:
1 - Alabama, 2 - Miami, 3 - Oklahoma, 4 - Clemson, 5 - Wisconsin, 6 - Auburn
What time are you hoping COFH will kickoff? Any other CFP predictions?
