Paul Johnson Responds to Clemson Game
Paul Johnson reserved his nicest words for the second half defense calling them “decent”. Otherwise Johnson was fairly critical of the team, while also taking full credit for the mistakes. He talked quite a bit about TaQuon Marshall’s struggles and how he made a lot of poor reads tonight. He mentions that even when Marshall did make the right read, we struggled with one-on-one blocks so the plays got stuffed anyway. He did mention the rain, but said it probably didn’t matter too much.
Georgia Tech Basketball Loses To Georgia State in Charity Exhibition
The Yellow Jackets fell 65-58 to the Panthers in a game that was a nearly wire-to-wire lead for Georgia State. Ben Lammers and Tadric Jackson led the team in scoring with 14 points each. It was a very tough day offensively for GT as they shot 30.8% from the field (yuck) and just 3-25 from deep (double yuck). This is disconcerting for sure, but it was just an exhibition. Hopefully this team can pick it up in time for the regular season.
Josh Okogie (and Brandon Alston) Go Down With Injury
Even worse news than the loss is the injury of Okogie. Josh had one of the best years of any Tech freshman ever last season and is hugely important to this offensively challenged team. He got fouled and appeared to break his finger, though more recent reports have revised the injury to a dislocation. This could keep him out anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months. Let’s hope for good news.
Without Okogie this team’s wing depth was going to get seriously tested. Unfortunately transfer guard Brandon Alston also went down with an injury. He sprained his MCL. Luckily that shouldn’t be too bad, just 2-4 weeks based on other players’ recovery times, but Alston has already missed a season of his career due to leg problems so we will see.
