The Jackets add a high upside guy for the 2018 class

A recent pop-up on the Georgia Tech recruiting radar, German DE Julius “Juice” Welschof committed to the Jackets after his visit for homecoming weekend.

Welschof claimed offers from several Power-5 programs including Syracuse, Minnesota, Iowa State, and Rutgers. He competed in several camps over the summer, drawing interest from several other big programs as well.

Welschof is now Tech’s 4th-highest rated player in the 2018 class per 247 composite and is a consensus 3-star. As a DE prospect, he fills perhaps the biggest need position in this class. With a 2nd DE now in the fold, the attention for this class will turn to the OL, where Tech has 2 commits but will likely take 4. Most other positions are full at this point, so it will hopefully be a quiet fall heading into the early signing period in December.

There isn’t a bunch of good film out there of Welschof, but he has an undeniably great frame that has a lot of room to grow. Already 6-6 and 250 lbs, he has an NFL frame, and will likely play at 270+. He’s another high-upside international find in the same vein has Adam Gotsis in 2012. Let’s hope Juice can be as good as the Bronco who preceded him.
