Georgia Tech Recruiting Roundup 1/13: We Have Visitors

The next few weekends could be huge for Georgia Tech’s 2017 recruiting class.

As Joey Weaver discussed yesterday, the next few weekends could be very important for the finish to Georgia Tech’s 2017 recruiting class. Tech has put together a solid class - especially considering where things stood during the summer - but there is work to be done yet. There will be several visitors on The Flats this weekend and in the next couple weeks, so let’s take a look at some of them.

DL Aliki Vimahi

Kahaku HS, Kahaku, Hawaii

6-3, 244 lbs.

Vimahi is a 3-star (0.8484 according to 247Sports Composite, 5.6 according to Rivals) defensive end out of Hawaii. He is the third-ranked player in the state, with Georgia Tech already having a commitment from the eighth-ranked player in Hawaii, Michael Minihan. Vimahi’s other offers include Virginia, Oregon State, Colorado and most notably, USC.

DB Avery Showell

St. Francis HS, Alpharetta, Ga.

6-2, 195 lbs.

Showell is a 3-star (0.8320, 5.6) defensive back from Alpharetta. According to the 247Sports Composite, he is ranked just outside the top 100 players in Georgia and holds several other Power 5 offers. West Virginia, Minnesota, Rutgers and Wake Forest have all offered the uncommitted safety.

RB Jordan Ponchez-Mason

Gallatin HS, Gallatin, Tenn.

6-0, 205 lbs.

Jordan Ponchez-Mason is a 3-star (0.8166, 5.5) running back out of Tennessee. Having seen Mason in person, when he was offered by Tech I said I thought he was one of the most underrated backs in the southeast and the Jackets could be getting a steal. Mason’s only other FBS offers are from Iowa State, Navy, MTSU, UTSA and Ball State.

DL Kelton Dawson

Stockbridge HS, Stockbridge, Ga.

6-3, 245 lbs.

Dawson is a 3-star (0.8355, 5.5) defensive end out of Stockbridge, Ga. He does not rank extremely highly, but shows some promise and upside on film. His other offers include Missouri, Kentucky and West Virginia, but he remains uncommitted.

Hopefully some of this visits will produce results for the Jackets.

Have a good weekend!
