Paul Johnson said on Wednesday that starting B-Back Dedrick Mills and fellow backfield member KirVonte Benson will be suspended for this week’s game against Mercer for a violation of team rules.
Mills started Tech’s season opener against Boston College and rushed for 68 yards and the game-winning touchdown with less than a minute remaining. Benson did not play in the Yellow Jackets’ opener in Ireland.
In a game that Tech should win easily, this doesn’t figure to be a huge deal on the field. But this is hopefully not the beginning of a trend for either player.
Georgia Tech will start sophomore Marcus Marshall at B-Back this Saturday, who is a more-than-capable backup. Marshall was Tech’s second-leading rusher last week with 37 yards, and led the team in rushing as a true freshman in 2015.
