4-Star DB Tre Swilling Is Commitment #12 for Georgia Tech’s 2017 Class

Tech adds its highest-rated player yet in the 2017 class.

The Yellow Jackets have picked up their twelfth commitment of the 2017 class, and it’s a big one. Tre Swilling - son of former Georgia Tech great Pat Swilling - is coming to The Flats.

CB Tre Swilling becomes the second-highest rated player in the class, rated as a 4-star by Rivals (5.8) and a 3-star by the 247Sports Composite (0.8752). Swilling is ranked as the #16 player in Louisiana and as the #43 cornerback in the nation. He is also 6’0” and weighs 180 pounds. Choosing Tech over offers including Alabama, Florida State and LSU, Swilling becomes the latest player in the secondary for the 2017 class, joining Gentry Bonds, Dameon Williams, Jaytlin Askew and OJ Tucker.

Tre shows a great nose for the ball and an ability to close on receivers from virtually anywhere. It’s evident why he is rated as highly as he is. If he isn’t able to intercept the ball, he still breaks it up. And he doesn’t appear to lack for physicality, either. A future defensive backfield featuring Swilling opposite Gentry Bonds could be quite formidable for opposing quarterbacks.

It is also worth noting many people thought Tre and his brother, Bruce Jordan-Swilling would be committing together, even as referenced by Tre himself earlier this morning.

However, after Tre’s commitment, this was the news.

That may not be the best news for Georgia Tech, but we’ll just have to wait and see. We’ll continue to monitor that situation.

With this commitment, there are currently just five spots remaining in Tech’s 2017 class. The class as it currently stands looks like this:

Georgia Tech is on an absolute roll with recruiting in August, adding 3 of the 4 highest-rated recruits in the class over the last three weeks. That roll could potentially continue later this week, when Bruce Jordan-Swilling makes his own announcement.

Congratulations to Tre and his family, and to the Georgia Tech coaching staff!
