The Yellow Jackets’ coaches and fans got excellent news on Thursday night, as McEachern HS DB Jaytlin Askew announced his commitment to Georgia Tech on Twitter.

This is a huge pickup for Paul Johnson and his staff, as Askew was said to be their top CB target in this recruiting class. Askew commits to Georgia Tech over reported offers from Auburn, Florida State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and several other Power-5 programs. He stands at 5’9”, 170 pounds, and is a highly-rated three-star prospect per Rivals (5.7) and the 247Sports Composite (0.8646). He becomes the highest-rated commitment so far in the 2017 recruiting class, and would’ve been one of the highest-rated recruits in last year’s Georgia Tech recruiting class as well. He also becomes one of the highest-rated recruits in Georgia Tech’s secondary in the last several years.
Askew’s film shows an incredible level of athleticism and speed that will be extremely valuable on the perimeter of Ted Roof’s defense. Though modestly undersized, his athleticism is a major weapon in helping him to cover bigger receivers.
After entering the month with only one player committed for their 2017 recruiting class, Georgia Tech now has scored five commitments over the last two weeks, pushing the class to a half-dozen players.
Congratulations to Jaytlin, his family, and the coaching staff on his commitment!
