GAMETHREAD: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets @ South Carolina Gamecocks, 2016 NIT Second Round

Will Brian Gregory and his band of seniors extend their season further?

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

After a dominating win over the Houston Cougars in the NIT's first round last Wednesday night, the Yellow Jackets head east to face the South Carolina Gamecocks in the second round of this year's tournament. Georgia Tech comes in on a hot streak, having won 7 of their last 9 games, including a 5-1 finish to the regular season and an ACC Tournament win over Clemson. They're set to take on 1-seed South Carolina, who was thought to be a major NCAA Tournament snub, but have faltered down the stretch after a strong 15-0 start. The Gamecocks come in having gone 4-5 in their last 9 games, including losses to Missouri, Mississippi State, and georgia (twice). They blew out High Point 88-66 last Tuesday in the NIT's first round, though, and look to make a statement tonight against an ACC opponent.

With a win, Georgia Tech would move to 21-14 -- their best mark ever under Brian Gregory, and their best since their 2010 NCAA Tournament appearance. It would also be the third-most wins at Georgia Tech since the departure of Bobby Cremins after the 1999-2000 season.
