No matter what the outcome of the impending Super Bowl is, a former Yellow Jacket will go home with a ring -- there is at least one former Tech player on each of the four remaining NFL playoff teams. The two most notable, New England's Shaq Mason and Denver's Demaryius Thomas, will start for their respective teams in the AFC Championship game in just a few days. On the NFC side, however, is a pair of former Jackets with hopes of one day holding down a starting role like Mason and Thomas: Carolina's Lou Young and Arizona's Quayshawn Nealy. Both Young and Nealy kicked off the season on practice squads, but Young was eventually promoted to the active roster for Carolina. Nealy remains on the Arizona practice squad but is still eligible for a ring if his team wins.
Season tickets for the 2016 Georgia Tech football team are now officially on sale. The prices of the tickets, which haven't changed in three years, currently start at $245 for the seven home games against Mercer, Vanderbilt, Georgia Southern, Miami, Clemson, Virginia, and Duke. That is a pretty nice home slate, especially when you consider the inclusion of Vanderbilt (replacing Notre Dame on the schedule) and Georgia Southern, one of the most popular home games from the 2014 campaign. The exact dates of the ACC games have not been released yet, but they should be in the coming weeks.
I'll leave you today with some continued hatred being thrown at the Stanford marching band by some very disgruntled Iowa Hawkeyes. Apparently having fun is strongly frowned upon in the marching band community. I just can't, for the life of me, understand why the Stanford band acting generally goofy is such a cause for uproar. Maybe someone out there who's reading this can explain the intricacies of band culture to me so that I too can get in on the rage. I'll begin drafting my spiteful letter to the Stanford president immediately after I find out. In the words of the learned scholar Blake Griffin:
"This must be how the guys in Space Jam felt when MJ gave them their powers back through that old basketball." -Blake Griffin
Whoops, wrong quote.
"Are we having fun yet?" -Blake Griffin
The Stanford band sure is!
Have a great weekend!
