Every week we’ll be looking at the poll roundup. Until the Playoff Poll comes out, we’ll stick with the AP poll. So here’s what the poll looks like after the third week of the season:
Two losses in a roll deservedly dropped Georgia Tech out of the top 25. There was no change in the top 6 following this week, but UCLA jumped Georgia to claim the #7 spot. Utah also shoots up into the top 10 after thumping Oregon in Eugene this weekend.
Elsewhere, Florida makes its first appearance in the Top 25 this season after a wild win over Tennessee, and Michigan shows up ranked at 22 because this sport is chaos and the voters don’t know what to make of them.
Ohio State mailed in a victory over Directional Michigan to maintain their top ranking.
It appears the inflated preseason rankings of several overrated teams have been washed out of the poll after these 4 weeks, and I really don’t see much to argue with except for numbers 22-25, which don’t really make a difference anyway. I would assume the voters were blindfolded and threw darts for those positions, and those are the teams they landed on. After the last couple weeks of chaos, that seems like as good a method as any for those spots.
