Women's Volleyball

The Lady Jackets headed to Omaha this past week to take part in Nebraska Ameritas Players Challenge. In their first match, the Jackets took on USF looking to extend their six-match winning streak. In the first game, USF got to an early 11-7 lead before the Jackets were able to rally and win 25-21. Now with momentum, the Jackets were able to cruise pretty easily to a 25-17 win in the second game. Drama started to rise in game three as the Bulls took a 23-20 lead and ultimately beat the Jackets 25-23. In another close game, the Lady Jackets would win the match after a 25-23 victory.

The second set came against UC Davis and it was full of drama throughout. The Aggies got out to a quick 2-0 set lead and was looking to sweep the Jackets. In the third game, the Jackets fought hard and ultimately won the set 37-35. From there, the Lady Jackets used the momentum swing to rally from two sets down to win the match three games to two, putting their winning streak at eight matches.

Unfortunately it wouldn't last any longer. Coming into this tournament, the Lady Cornhuskers were ranked as the No. 5 team in the country and their play showed that. They tore apart the Lady Jackets in the first two games of the match, only allowing Tech to score 28 points in the first two games combined. The Lady Jackets didn't go out easily, though. In the third game, the Jackets worked their way to a 13-13 tie before the Lady Cornhuskers pulled away to sweep the match after a 25-21 victory.

The Lady Jackets get back to action this week Friday night as they travel to Kennesaw to take on the Kennesaw State Lady Owls. The match starts at 7 p.m.

Men's Golf

The Men's Golf team got their season started last weekend in the Carpet Capital Collegiate. Now that Ollie Schniederjans has graduated, the Jackets had to find someone else to take charge of the team. They may have found his replacement in sophomore Jacob Joiner. In the event last weekend, Joiner took home first place by finishing four under par for the whole weekend. You can check out the full standings here: Link.
