Technical Tidbits 7/15

Another day means another nomination for a preseason award.

Brad Barr-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia Tech cornerback D.J. White became the eleventh Yellow Jacket nominated for a preseason award so far this offseason when he was named to the watch list for the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. The award recognizes players from all across the country who display a strong dedication to service and the betterment of their communities through volunteering their time and talents to help others. Tech safety Isaiah Johnson was nominated for the team last season, but was passed over in favor of a a slew of players including Duke's Laken Tomlinson and Georgia's admittedly impressive Chris Conley.

For a nice look ahead at the upcoming 2015 basketball season, look no further than this article from Today's U. As I've mentioned before, this season has been all but given up on by most fans but still has the potential to be a huge step up from what we've seen in recent years -- there should be much better shooting thanks to additions such as Adam Smith and possibly an even better post presence as a result of increased frontcourt depth. I'm still not projecting anything close to an NCAA Tournament berth, but I do get more and more confident every day in the team's potential ability to contend in what could be a relatively weak ACC, at least compared to recent seasons.

Although it was recently announced that Florida State and Alabama would play a kickoff game in the new Georgia Dome to begin the 2017 season, it still appears that the Georgia Tech vs. Tennessee matchup which has been in the works for over a year will be played. I'm beginning to think that the game will be stuck in this purgatory-esque state of being until the day before it is set to be played, stuck on a weird border between existing and not existing until we wake up one day to the news that Tennessee backed out. Who wants to prepare for a flexbone anyways? Ew.

The closer he gets to full-on senility, the more entertaining South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier becomes. The legendary coach's recent appearance at the 2015 SEC Media Days only serves to cement that previous statement as the confirmed law of the land -- he dropped a number of his classic quotes that only an established coach like himself could get away with.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Sumlin said Spurrier told him: "You guys had same record as Auburn last year right? You should tell (the media) that"</p>&mdash; Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) <a href="">July 14, 2015</a></blockquote>

That's a burn. I have no clue who it's on, but that's a burn.

Of the near-dozed Yellow Jackets who have been nominated for awards, which is the most likely to win?
