Technical Tidbits 3/5

Are college football uniforms getting too cool?

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia Tech's regular season finale against North Carolina, which ended in yet another blowout, proved to be the icing on the cake for what has been an awful season. Multiple Jackets were out with injury, including Josh Heath and Quinton Stephens, but perhaps the biggest blow came when star small forward Marcus Georges-Hunt went down with a foot injury just minutes into the game. It would later be revealed that Georges-Hunt had suffered a fracture of his fifth metatarsal, ending his season just before the onset of the ACC Tournament.

The AJC's Ken Sugiura has three takeaways from the game which will hopefully give you a better idea of what exactly went on. As he notes, the injury bug has stayed far away from Tech all season long -- only one Yellow Jacket, Travis Jorgenson, had missed even a single game before the regular season finale. While that's always a great thing to hear, it's more of a death sentence for Brian Gregory than anything else -- the fact that he couldn't win even with his team 100% healthy for the entire season doesn't bode well for his future as head coach.

The new era of flashy uniforms (and extreme controversy surrounding said uniforms) has led to a completely unique and new problem in college football -- fans and members of the media are beginning to struggle with reading names and numbers because of certain color schemes. This is obviously a more prevalent issue among schools such as Oregon which so frequently feature new uniforms on a game-by-game basis, but there are traces of it elsewhere also. I never personally have problems reading the names and couldn't care less if I did, but I guess that for people whose jobs depend on it then it could be an issue.

I'll leave you today with SB Nation's list of 40 Vines that made college basketball awesome so far this season. Unfortunately, one of them (and this one is also the thumbnail for the post) is Notre Dame's Jerian Grant dunking on Georgia Tech. Other than that, though, it's a really cool list.

What are your thoughts on the state of college football uniforms?

Have a great Thursday!
