Yellow Jacket Roundup 11/18

Ed. Note: Apologies for no post last week. It was a bit of a hectic week for me with classes and my girlfriend getting into a wreck (don't worry, she's fine), but we'll be covering the last couple weeks today and also taking next week off for Thanksgiving.

Cross Country

NCAA South Regional -- Harry Pritchett XC Course -- Tuscaloosa, Ala. -- 11/13

Last week, the Men's and Women's Cross Country teams participated in the NCAA South Regional hosted by the University of Alabama. The men finished in eight place with a score of 211, and the women finished 17th with a score of 495.

The men were led senior Brandon Lasater who finished the men's 10K in 22nd with a time of 31:29.34. The Jackets had three other runners finish in the top 50: Zane Coburn (43rd | 32:02.21), Nahom Solomon (48th | 32:16.55) and Matt Munns (50th | 32:18.40).

The women were led by Melissa Fairey, who was the only runner for the Lady Jackets to finish in the top 100. She finished the women's 6K in 74th place with a time of 21:57.91.

Upcoming Events

The four matches that Tech has before the next Yellow Jacket Roundup will be posted are the last four matches for the Lady Jackets this season. First up is a trip to South Bend to take on Notre Dame on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. Next is a trip to Louisville, Ky. to take on the Cardinals on Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. Tech finishes the season with two matches at home. The first one is Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. against Florida State, and the second is Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. against Miami.

Men's Tennis

USTA Clay Court Invitational -- ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World -- Lake Buena Vista, Fla. -- 11/5-11/8

The Yellow Jackets had tennis players make it to the quarterfinals in the gold and garnet draws int he USTA Clay Court Invitational. In the gold draw, Nathan Rakitt faced off against Pepperdine's Pedro Iamachkine and lost two sets to one. In the garnet draw, Andrew Li won advanced to the semifinals before losing to Penn State's Tomas Hanzlik in straight sets.

USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships -- USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center -- Flushing, N.Y. -- 11/12-11/15

This was an event that Tech only had one player perform in, and that was Christopher Eubanks. Eubanks had an impressive run, making it all the way to the semifinals before losing to Cal's Andre Goransson two sets to one.

Bulldog Scramble -- Dan Magill Tennis Complex -- Athens, Ga. -- 11/13-11/15

While Eubanks was in New York, the rest of the team made its way to Athens to take part in the Bulldog Scramble. In singles, the Jackets won eight. of their 16 matches, with Michael Kay and Andrew Li each winning won match and Casey Kay, Carlos Benito and Elijah Melendez each winning two.

In doubles, Tech's duos won five of their 11 matches. The Kay brothers won two matches while Elijah Mendez and each of his three partners (Daniel Yun, Carlos Benito and John Milstead) won one match apiece.

Swimming & Diving

Georgia -- Ramsey Center -- Athens, Ga. -- 11/4

The Swimming & Diving team traveled to Athens a couple weeks ago to take on the Bulldogs in a meet. The men lost by a final score of 180-115, while the women lost by a final score of 184-108.

The men were led by Moises Loschi and Brad Hozma. Loschi won the men's 100 breast, while Hozma won the men's 1-meter dive.

The women were led by Iris Wang, who won the women's 50 freestyle.

The Jackets get back to action tomorrow as they host the Georgia Tech Invite.

The Lady Jackets have five games before the next Yellow Jacket Roundup: Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. against Southeastern Louisiana, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m. against UGA in Athens, Nov. 24 at 5 p.m. against Alabama State, and then the Cancun Challenge, where they play Northern Iowa at 9 p.m. on Nov. 26 and High Point at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 27.
