After coming closer and closer to securing that elusive first ACC victory, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets beat the No. 23 Miami Hurricanes by a final score of 70-50.
Marcus Georges-Hunt hit a career high in ACC games with 24 points, hitting 10 of his 12 shots, while also adding in six rebounds and three assists.
Tech got off to a quick start and didn't really look back at all. Within the first eight minutes of the game, the Yellow Jackets held a 20-6 advantage over the Hurricanes.
By halftime, Miami had closed the gap a little, making the score 34-26. But it proved to be a fruitless effort by the Hurricanes.
Coming out of the half, the Institute scored on four consecutive possessions, pushing their lead to 41-28.
What was truly vital for Tech was their defense. They held Miami's top two scorers (Sheldon McClellan and Angel Rodriguez) to just six points. All six of those came from McClellan.
In just his sixth start of the season, Chris Bolden continued to make an impact with his 13 points. Demarco Cox also added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Forward Robert Sampson was forced to exit the game some time during the second half with what is believed to be a hip pointer. He did not return, but he is not expected to miss much, if any, time at all.
Tech will return to the court on Saturday, when they play host to the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
