1/22 Recruiting Update: Brandon Singleton is Gone, Who Takes His Spot?

We're going to take a look at four potential guys who could fill the spot of recently decommitted wide receiver Brandon Singleton.

Brad Barr-USA TODAY Sports

So we've had an up and down week in terms of recruiting this week. We gained two commitments from Dorian Walker and David Curry, but we expectedly lost the commitment of Brandon Singleton.

So what do we do now?

Everything I've heard tells me that we have four players which we are considering for his final spot in the class. And we do indeed only have one spot in this class unless for some reason someone else leaves, due to attrition or decommitment. Included in that is a spot which is being saved for Jabari Hunt-Days. This tells me that CPJ is pretty confident that he'll be back in the fall.

Now let's take a look at these four guys.

Pos First Last Hometown High School Ht Wt Rivals Rating Film
LB Vic Alexander Jacksonville, FL Trinity Christian 5'10" 220 3 stars 5.6 Link
RB Marcus Marshall Raleigh, NC Millbrook 5'9" 205 3 stars 5.5 Link
WR Brad Stewart Savannah, GA Benedictine Military 6'1" 190 3 stars 5.5 Link
DE Dylan Jackson Maryville, TN Maryville 6'5" 243 3 stars 5.7 Link

The only really new name on here is DE Dylan Jackson. Jackson committed to Tennessee in January of last season, but decommitted this last December. The official story is that he decommitted, but there have been rumblings that he was "processed" and had his scholarship removed. Will we ever know what actually happened here? Probably not.

He's a good DE prospect that would help finish off this class that is really missing a good pass-rushing prospect from the end spot.

To my knowledge, Stewart has not yet been officially offered a regular scholarship, just the grayshirt/PWO offer, so I feel like at this point, Stewart taking that spot is probably unlikely.

Marcus Marshall, as far as I know, is still sticking with his Jan. 27 announcement date. With this weekend being an OV weekend, that could be too late. The one thing that's holding him back from committing is the fact that he hasn't visited Tech yet.

Victor Alexander is the final candidate for the final spot. He's a current UCLA commit who will be visiting Tech Jan. 30, which could also be too late.

According to Rivals, Tech will have three players coming in for official visits this weekend: LB Tyler Cooksey, RB Marcus Marshall and DE Dylan Jackson.

I think we'll definitely fill that spot sometime over the weekend. I think it'll depend on whether Marshall will go ahead and decide to commit or not, because at this point I think Jackson may be a longshot. We shall see though.

That's what recruiting looks like right now. What questions do y'all have?
