Technical Tidbits 6/3

In which we examine how the Jackets will finish in 2014 and more.

Kevin C. Cox

Athlon Sports released their predictions for the upcoming football season recently, and they have Tech sitting near the bottom of the ACC Coastal, finishing the year at 6-6 (3-5 ACC). I just can't imagine them losing five ACC games this season, it seems unrealistic. I can even imagine the Jackets going undefeated in ACC play this season (or losing just one game). There isn't any team on their ACC slate that is proven at all-- UNC, Clemson, NCSU, Miami, Pitt, Virginia Tech, and (maybe) Virginia will all have a new QB under center. Actually, there are only two returning quarterbacks in the entire ACC this season-- Jameis Winston of  FSU and Anthony Boone of Duke. Here are some other interesting things I saw in the predictions:

-Wake Forest picked to go 0-8 in the ACC.

-Georgia Tech picked to finish sixth out of seven in the Coastal.

-Clemson and FSU are the only ACC teams projected to finish in the Top 25.

Georgia Tech has been recruiting Buford High School RB/DB Evyn Cooper aggressively lately as he continues on the path to college football. Cooper, class of 2015, is interested in Tech mainly because of proximity to home and academics, and Tech is currently thought to be a frontrunner for his services. The article says that Cooper would likely play A-Back at Tech, which given his great size wouldn't be a big surprise. Tech's stable of A-Backs is probably not going to be very deep next season, so every recruit matters at this point.

Following the end of Tech sports coverage on 790 The Zone this season, Georgia Tech signed a three year deal with 680 the Fan to carry all men's basketball and football events starting this season. The new flagship station of the Jackets also carries various other sporting events from around the Atlanta area.

Syracuse put its foot in its mouth big time this week when they sent a recruit 64 letters in one day... after they called out other schools for sending obscene amounts of mail to prospects. The recipient of the letters was DB Mohamed Berry of Grayson High School in Loganville, and judging by the tweet embedded in the article, he was thoroughly impressed by the unorthodox recruiting method. Look a bit closer and you'll see a Georgia Tech recruiting letter in the top right. Only one? I'm going to go ahead and guesst what CPJ wrote in that letter: "I guess you can come play here if you want. We have football and stuff, so yeah." Sounds about right to me. What do you all think was written in it? (For entertainment purposes, pretend like it was written by CPJ.)

Daily Debate: What are your predictions for the ACC football standings after the season ends?

Just for fun, what do you think the recruiting letter from Georgia Tech said?

Have a great Tuesday!
