Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Recruiting: Meet Clinton Lynch

Clinton Lynch became Georgia Tech's twentieth commitment on February 4th, 2014, just a day before National Signing Day. He stands at 6'0", 185lbs, and hails from Norcross High School in Norcross, GA, making him the second of three Gwinnett County commitments in this class. He comes from a high school with a very extensive tradition of football excellence, with five teammates rated higher than him just in this senior class (including Myles Autry and the state's #4 prospect DE Lorenzo Carter). The high school wide receiver will most likely be slotted at A-Back at Georgia Tech, but as with any player that's subject to change. Georgia Tech was Lynch's only major offer, though he flipped his commitment from Georgia State and had FBS offers from Western Kentucky, Buffalo, and Middle Tennessee State, with interest from programs like uga and Tennessee.

Lynch's film shows why Tech coveted him as an A-Back. As a receiver in high school, his two biggest strengths were his speed and his hands. He's touted as having a 4.45 40-yard dash time, backed up by him just looking like one of the fastest players on the field. Along with that, his hands are fantastic. He's reliable to catch the ball when he's supposed to, and he's even able to make some impressive catches when being hit in traffic. As an A-Back (or a WR, really), Lynch's biggest question will be his ability to block. He has a slight frame with what looks like minimal experience blocking, and as CPJ has mentioned in the past, blocking is the key for an A-Back to make it into the rotation. As a player, he reminds me a lot of B.J. Bostic, who's fast with or without the ball, but really excels as a receiver. With decent blocking skills, that combination makes for a really nice A-Back.

Let's not beat around the bush here. I highly doubt that Lynch plays as a true freshman, given the slate of older guys at the position and not helped by the speculation that Myles Autry was promised playing time as a freshman. (More on that tomorrow.) However, that has little meaning in the long run as far as how successful Lynch will be at A-Back. It's one of those positions where the guys with the highest potential seem to end up in the same neighborhood as guys you completely write off the begin with. I can't say that this team has a true, dominant A-Back after the departure of Robert Godhigh. However, I can say that I like Lynch's potential at the postition, and am very interested to see how he fits in over his time at Georgia Tech.
