Georgia Tech Football Recruiting Update: Monday Recap

While you were sleeping, the Yellow Jackets added another key player to the 2014 class.

You got to love high school athletes. One minute they are sporting your favorite team's colors and wearing their gear, the next minute they are turning your team down like a last-second prom date.

As you recall from Friday's write up, Mike Rogers was a player Paul Johnson and his staff really liked and pursued him hard. Rogers committed to UCF last July but was gaining a lot of interest from Tech. I believe one reason he was giving Tech a look is because Paul Johnson was recruiting him as an athlete. He could play both ways. Rogers really wants to play safety at the next level. Seems to me Tech was giving him the best option. However, he gave Tech and UCF a time table on which school he was going to commit and it was this past weekend. Last night, during the Super Bowl, Rogers gave his verbal to George O' Leary and Central Florida. Now, there is some speculation on why he chose UCF over Tech. Kelly Quinlan of is reporting that Georgia Tech coaches pulled his offer, for reasons unknown.

No one is really sure but I am curious to see where this story ends up. I was hoping he ended up at Tech but I wish him the best at UCF.

On the flip side, the Yellow Jackets picked up a nice commit from defensive end Kenderius Whitehead from the Georgia Military College. Whitehead was in Atlanta this weekend visiting The Flats with his mother and pulled the trigger last night as he gave his verbal to Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech. Tech was looking for a player who fit the mold of all-time sack leader Jeremiah Attaochu and Whitehead will be the guy to step in and fill the void. He is the 19th commitment for Tech and he will have three years to play with the yellow jackets.

This Wednesday (Feb.5) is National Signing Day. We will keep you updated on any further news on our commits and targets.
