Technical Tidbits 12/11

In which Paul Johnson makes it rain COtY awards.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

I usually try to stay away from content that is mostly pictures, but this compilation of the best photos of the 2014 season was just too neat to leave out. I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but this season really has been a truly special one for Georgia Tech. I personally can't wait to see what happens next season and moving forward under what I'd call a new segment of the Paul Johnson era.

This game got totally lost in the buzz of the ACC Championship game, but Georgia Tech actually lost to USC-Upstate on Saturday in basketball, falling to the Spartans 59-54. So much for a lack of bad losses so far on the schedule. Ironically, the score went final as I (as well as a number of other Tech fans) were driving right past Spartanburg, home of USCU, on the way to Charlotte. Coincidence? Sounds more like #Illuminati to me. It was a terrible, terrible, terrible loss for the Jackets and hopefully represents rock bottom for Brian Gregory's team.

Alabama has debuted in the playoffs as a 39% favorite to win it all against three of the best teams in the nation. This further verifies the theory that just about every single media outlet and computer program hates Florida State to death for no real reason and also confirms that Vegas is a huge SEC fan. The ultimate lesson in all of this is that Ohio State will have a heck of a quarterback controversy next season with Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett, and Cardale Jones all healthy and very effective.

Just weeks after being named Coach of the Year by the media, Paul Johnson has taken home the same honor from his fellow coaches -- 10 of 14 ACC Coaches agree that Johnson was the best coach in the conference this season while 4 out of 14 failed to watch college football. Paul Johnson has done a flat-out fantastic job at Tech this season and absolutely deserves every award he can get.

What does a loss to USC-Upstate mean for this season?

Have a great Thursday!
