Monday after practice, Coach Johnson made it known that WRs Darren Waller and Travin Henry would be suspended for the season's opener against Elon for a violation of team rules. Reports indicate that this isn't something that happened over this past weekend, but something that happened over the course of the summer that Coach Johnson waited to announce.
Darren Waller in particular is a major loss to the team, who is the only receiver that will play this season who has a career reception. With Waller gone, Junior DeAndre Smelter will get his first career start after two years on the baseball diamond, while redshirt Freshman Micheal Summers looks to start opposite Smelter. With two major players at receiver gone, and the position being depleted to begin with, this means that the contest against Elon will either feature a lot of plays for Smelter, Summers, and Corey Dennis, or more action than normal for walk-ons like Jaime Alvarez, Brandon Oliver, and Marty Alcala.
How will the loss of Waller and Henry impact Georgia Tech's play against Elon?
