This is a big recruiting weekend coming up on the Flats, and will feature some of the elite prospects that Georgia Tech has worked long and hard to attract. The festivities will begin with a Picnic on Friday, which is designed to help current and prospective commits bond with each other and with their position coaches. Saturday will be open for these and other prospects to take a visit to the Tech campus, tour the facilities, and get to know more about their academic careers and about Atlanta. Finally, on Sunday GT will hold its first prospect camp of the Summer, where inevitably there is always a handful of guys who stand out and get offers.
This Picnic and Prospect Camp will be the figurative ‘WD-40’ that will grease the skids and get this class in motion towards landing commitments. By this point, you’ve read about some of the favorites leaning towards Tech such as ATH Malkom Parrish, CB Step Durham, DE KeShun Freeman, and ATH Myles Autry…who will all be there Friday. I wanted to discuss a few other names who have decided to come and might possibly be names you hear in the near future…
QB Kendrick Doss (Florence HS, Florence, AL)…Listed at 6’2” 218, Doss might be confused with ‘Hoss’ the way he runs the option. The #11 ranked dual-threat QB in the nation, according to Rivals, to me he’s very reminiscent of David Sims.
RB Shai McKenzie (Washington HS, Washington, PA)...McKenzie is a 4-star prospect, rated in the Rivals250, and listed at 6'0" 212, and is currently ranked as the #20 RB prospect in the nation by Rivals. He could project at either B-Back or A-Back (good versatility and top end speed), but I really like his quick feet, inside vision, and size to play B-Back.
CB Grant Haley (The Lovett School, Atlanta, GA)…This 5’10” 180 CB prospect is ranked #49 nationally by Rivals.
OL Cole Hardin (Florence HS, Florence, AL)…Doss’ teammate at Florence, Hardin registers in at 6’5” 293 and is the #27 ranked OG in the nation according to Rivals. Mean and nasty with a terrific motor.
ATH Tez Parks (Calloway HS, Hogansville, GA)…This versatile 6’1” 185 3-star Athlete, who is also HS teammates with DE KeShun Freeman, could play any number of positions including QB, AB, WR, CB, or S.
OLB Cameron Albright (North Cobb HS, Kennesaw, GA)…Like former North Cobb alum Darren Waller, Albright is a big, athletic Safety prospect at 6’2” 201 that will most likely grow into an OLB at the next level.
One very noticeable trend is our increased influence inside the state of Alabama thanks to the recruiting skill and connections of coach Mike Pelton. He's brought in commit ATH Jalen Johnson from Oneonta, AL. Along with Doss and Hardin, CMP is attracting interest from Demopolis (AL) teammates DE Tyler Merriweather and ATH Demetrius Kemp, Tuscaloosa (AL) standout LB Keith Holcombe, and Jackson (AL) QB Matthew Jordan...who will all be in attendance this weekend.
We will keep you posted should any commitments occur. Any guesses by the FTRS readers on how fruitful this weekend might be?
