Mid-May Southern-Style Recruiting Update

Malkom Parrish could be a game-changing player...will it be on the Flats?

UPDATE (5:55pm EST): Adam Choice has committed to Clemson. Story

It's been a few weeks since the last Georgia Tech recruiting update, and while no recruits have committed since Miles Taylor and Tre Jackson did in March, Tech has gained momentum with several recruits. Only 2 commits, you ask? Don't sweat it...we were only collecting our 3rd and 4th commits about this time last year. By the end of June 2012, however, we were sitting at 9 commits (in a class of 14). In other words...expect a lot of action in the next few weeks with Tech likely amassing 12-13 commits by the end of the June camp season (we will probably sign 20+ in the 2014 class).

Many of the same recruits are in play, with a few new surprises and legacies in the mix. For all of the recent 'Migration' chatter lately, the list of recruits with Tech as a favorite has a very Southern (specifically South Georgia) flavor. CAM has done a great job recruiting this area and North Florida, though our strongest recruiter in this area might be current commit Tre Jackson...who is lobbying the South Georgia guys hard. Some of these players might be the next names you hear reserving a spot on the Georgia Tech football team and classrooms...

Malkom Parrish...Malkom is no stranger to the Tech campus, and has recently completed a meteoric rise from middling 3-star prospect, to a Rivals100 high 4-star based on winning top defensive player honors at a recent prospect camp in Atlanta. Malkom could either play CB (where he would be signed by any school) or option QB in the right system. Tech, of course, is looking at him at QB, where he also excels at Brooks County HS (Quitman, GA) as a natural leader. He has a great head in his shoulders, and likes the urban campus setting (he's originally from Miami). Tech's biggest competition is the Dwags, who based on recent reports stand neck-and-neck. Tech has a solid recruiting effort going between CAM, Jackson, and Mama Parrish...however I'm sure the sentiment in the area is for the Dwags. Keep your fingers crossed but Tech is in great shape for a kid who could be a momentum starter for a great class.

Step Durham...This 4-star CB prospect from the Jacksonville area (Atlantic Coast HS) has routinely visited the Flats, previously coming close to committing. Tech's competition is Vandy and Ole Miss, and Step is likely to announce in the next 2 weeks. Looks very good for Tech as they have maintained a terrific relationship with CLO leading recruiting efforts.

KeShun Freeman...Currently, Tech is in Freeman's top 3 along with Tennessee and Stanford. This high 3-star prospect from Calloway HS in Hogansville, GA (Lagrange area) could either project as a Sam LB or a rushing WDE (a Jeremiah Attaochu-type).

Myles Autry...Younger brother of current Tech WR Anthony Autry spend lots of time on Tech's campus, and the two share the unfortunate bond of rehabbing from knee surgery. While other schools have waffled on Myles following his knee injury during Norcross HS's 6A title run last year, Tech has remained firmly interested with CTR in contact with the versatile 4-star athlete. Tech is certainly in the running, though Autry's decision may come later in the process with a strong Senior season.

Adam Choice...And of course lets not forget cousin of former Tech RBs Joe Burns and Tashard Choice, the QB from Thomas County Central in Thomasville, GA. This past weekend, Choice visited Tech and came away with a good feeling moving GT into his top 3 (with Auburn and Clemson). Tech is recruiting Choice as a BB or AB for the spread option, another assist from Tre Jackson as well.

Michael Preddy...This 6'5" 260 prospect from Charleston's Porter Gaud School is being recruited as an OL prospect, and Tech is his favorite. Though offered by Louisville, Rutgers, and Wake Forest...he may become GT's first lineman commit in the next few weeks.

Recruiting efforts in the Mid-Atlantic and Mid-West are making strides...with such talented prospects as S Montae Nicholson, DT Daniel Cage, and RB Shai McKenzie planning visits to Atlanta this Summer. The Southeast is also looking good with such elite prospects as RB Donte Thomas-Williams, DT Michael Sawyers, and DE Andrew Williams (current Tech DE Anthony William's younger brother) moving Tech up their list of favorites.

Look for the Summer Camp season to be busy for GT. Any prospect you're excited about Tech fans?
