Miami Film Review

A play-by-play review of what went right and wrong this past weekend

Kevin Liles-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

By now the over-arching implications of losing another game in overtime to a conference rival have been covered pretty damn well at this blog. The purpose of this film review is not to get in to big picture stuff. It is to break down the game, play-by-play, and determine what players excelled on each play and which players didn't perform quite as well. This game was especially tough to watch again and so some of my comments might be a little emotional. As always there were both positive things to take from this game and negatives. So lets jump in to what I learned from re-watching the game.

  • We can not tackle. It was awful this game. Mike James broke so many tackles at the line, our secondary could not bring their receivers down, and again on our last drive our defense kept missing tackles to let a team just drive down the field. This has to be corrected before Clemson.
  • Our secondary disappeared. I was incredibly impressed with our secondary up until this point in the season. And then all of a sudden they let Miami's receivers run wild in the secondary. Phillip Dorsett absolutely killed us and we could not cover him. And to be honest, Stephen Morris was incredibly inconsistent all game, it could have been worse.
  • Our perimeter blocking needs some work. I feel bad for continuing to point this out because when we have a successful outside run it is easy to credit the running backs and offensive line and not the receiver's or the blocking backs. However, our offense gets killed when the receivers miss their blocks. But the worst blocking definitely occurs by the B-backs. Laskey continually misses his lead blocks and gives the A-back no room to run, and our B-backs rarely hit the blocks on draw plays. It is so frustrating.
  • Tevin continues to play well. Would I like to see him be a tad more aggressive on the option as a senior? Yes. But Tevin is throwing a great deep ball and generally makes all the right reads, both on the option and reading coverages. The only thing that is becoming a trend is his inability to attack the pitch man on deep counter plays. He could be more decisive when the option is hard to read, but this is the last thing to master reading the option. He is hitting all of the normal reads.
  • Our O-line actually played pretty well. Up until the last 4th quarter drives we didn't allow much penetration the whole game, it was refreshing to see.

1st Quarter Play by Play

Georgia Tech at 15:00

MIA

David Scully kickoff for 65 yards for a touchback.

So far 1-1 on Touchbacks, ball was about 6 yards deep in the end zone

Miami (FL) at 15:00

MIA

1st and 10 at MIA 25

Mike James rush for 6 yards to the MiaFl 31, tackled by Brandon Watts.

Our d-line really doesn't get much push and someone, hard to tell who, doesn't squeeze down nearly enough and it allows Mike James a wide hole to run through.

2nd and 4 at MIA 31

Stephen Morris pass complete to Phillip Dorsett for 4 yards to the MiaFl 35 for a 1ST down.

This could have been a bigger play if it was an accurate throw. The called coverage gave the receiver a ton of room.

1st and 10 at MIA 35

Stephen Morris pass complete to Phillip Dorsett for 65 yards for a TOUCHDOWN.

I remember this play, the receivers lined up right behind each other and just ran a simple post-fly combo route. Isaiah Johnson stays on top of the post way to long and no one runs with the fly on the outside. This is an easy throw and catch. I mean come on, the corner is going to stay on the inside guy, you have to stay over the op of everyone if you are going to be playing deep safety.

Jake Wieclaw extra point GOOD.

Jake Wieclaw kickoff for 65 yards returned by Orwin Smith for 32 yards to the GTech 32, tackled by Kacy Rodgers II.

Orwin catches this ball 1 yard into the end zone and immediately runs it out. He then uses his speed to make some people miss.

DRIVE TOTALS: UM drive: 3 plays 75 yards, 00:57 UM TD

Georgia Tech at 13:54

MIA

1st and 10 at GT 32

Robert Godhigh rush for 1 yard to the GTech 33, tackled by Eddie Johnson and Shayon Green.

This was a new play. We fake option right and the left A-back, Godhigh, turns up on the hand off.

2nd and 9 at GT 33

Orwin Smith rush for 17 yards to the 50 yard line, tackled by A.J. Highsmith for a 1ST down.

When the option runs well it just looks easy

1st and 10 at GT 50

Zach Laskey rush for 3 yards to the MiaFl 47, tackled by Tyrone Cornileus.

Left Guard allows the backside DT to get through the line, tough for Laskey to get any yards.

2nd and 7 at MIA 47

Tevin Washington rush for a loss of 2 yards to the MiaFl 49, tackled by Anthony Chickillo.

Looked like a broken play, there was no one to pitch to.

3rd and 9 at MIA 49

B.J. Bostic rush for 6 yards to the MiaFl 43, tackled by Brandon McGee.

4th and 3 at MIA 43

Orwin Smith rush for a loss of 7 yards to the 50 yard line, tackled by Jimmy Gaines.

Terrible block by Laskey as the lead blocker. I mean, he runs right by the corner, Orwin gets hit as soon as he catches the ball. I have no idea what Laskey was looking for here.

DRIVE TOTALS: GT drive: 6 plays 18 yards, 02:09 GT DOWNS

Miami (FL) at 11:45

MIA

1st and 10 at GT 50

Stephen Morris pass incomplete, broken up by Jamal Golden.

Great job by Golden to knock this pass down, there was good coverage on the receiver as well.

2nd and 10 at GT 50

Duke Johnson rush for 4 yards to the GTech 46, tackled by Quayshawn Nealy.

Dieke seems to be there for a stop for no gain but Duke is able to slip out of the tackle and gain some extra yards, got to rap up.

3rd and 6 at GT 46

MIAMI FL penalty 5 yard false start on Phillip Dorsett accepted.

3rd and 11 at MIA 49

Stephen Morris pass complete to Phillip Dorsett for 4 yards to the GTech 47, tackled by Isaiah Johnson and Rod Sweeting.

Great job by the secondary to see the WR screen, break down, and keep the receiver in front of them. Dorsett had no where to go.

4th and 7 at GT 47

Dalton Botts punt for 42 yards, downed at the GTech 5.

DRIVE TOTALS: UM drive: 3 plays 3 yards, 01:50 UM PUNT

Georgia Tech at 9:55

MIA

1st and 10 at GT 5

Robert Godhigh rush for 1 yard to the GTech 6, tackled by Maurice Hagens and Brandon McGee.

Tevin has got to attack this play more, he pitches it when no one is close to him and leaves the defender essentially even with Godhigh.

2nd and 9 at GT 6

B.J. Bostic rush for 9 yards to the GTech 15, tackled by Eddie Johnson for a 1ST down.

That's what happens when you bring the pitch man to you as the QB. Makes it a very easy run for Bostic.

1st and 10 at GT 15

Tevin Washington rush for 6 yards to the GTech 21, tackled by Tyrone Cornileus.

Pitch man sets up outside and Tevin is able to cut up for a solid gain.

2nd and 4 at GT 21

MIAMI FL penalty 14 yard pass interference on Ladarius Gunter accepted, no play.

Great play fake to set up the pass. The corner had no option but to get in the way of the receiver.

1st and 10 at GT 35

Zach Laskey rush for 2 yards to the GTech 37, tackled by Luther Robinson and Tyrone Cornileus.

No idea how this play only got 2 yards, the line got great push, Laskey needs to run with his head up and make a cut.

2nd and 8 at GT 37

Tevin Washington rush for no gain to the GTech 37, tackled by Kelvin Cain.

TEVIN BUCKLE YOUR HELMET! His helmet comes off more than anyone else I have seen. Also Shaquille Mason is our worst starting O-lineman, without a doubt. He continually misses on his scoops and pull blocks. He runs around the line here and just completely whiffs on his block.

3rd and 8 at GT 37

Vad Lee rush for 3 yards to the GTech 40, tackled by Jimmy Gaines.

The draw is open if Laskey can get on the linebacker that makes the tackle. Not doing an impressive job so far.

4th and 5 at GT 40

Sean Poole punt for 47 yards, downed at the MiaFl 13.

Pretty good punt and coverage

DRIVE TOTALS: GT drive: 6 plays 35 yards, 03:05 GT PUNT

Miami (FL) at 6:50

MIA

1st and 10 at MIA 13

Stephen Morris rush for 3 yards to the MiaFl 16, tackled by Quayshawn Nealy.

Nealy does a great job closing on Morris from the middle of the field, it originally looked like Morris would get a lot of yards.

2nd and 7 at MIA 16

Stephen Morris pass complete to Allen Hurns for 5 yards to the MiaFl 21 out-of-bounds.

The fact that Jemea Thomas was looking around after the play makes it seem like a busted coverage. Guy was wide open in the flats

3rd and 2 at MIA 21

Stephen Morris pass complete to Clive Walford for 6 yards to the MiaFl 27 for a 1ST down.

This is a tough throw and Morris and Walford do a great job connecting on this play, I think our defense did a good job.

1st and 10 at MIA 27

Mike James rush for 7 yards to the MiaFl 34, tackled by Isaiah Johnson.

We had Mike James wrapped up at the line but couldn't hold on, that's 3 running plays so far where our defense can't wrap up correctly.

2nd and 3 at MIA 34

GEORGIA TECH penalty 5 yard substitution infraction accepted, no play.

1st and 10 at MIA 39

Stephen Morris pass complete to Phillip Dorsett for 40 yards to the GTech 21, tackled by Isaiah Johnson for a 1ST down.

Who is this Philip Dorsett guy and why does he keep abusing Isaiah Johnson??

1st and 10 at GT 21

Stephen Morris pass incomplete to Clive Walford.

Morris forces this thrown but again checks out of a run and throws the quick throw to an outside receiver, I guess they see something that they think they can exploit in our coverage.

3rd and 10 at GT 21

MIAMI FL penalty IM declined, no play.

Play by Play missed a play for some reason, weird

3rd and 10 at GT 21

Jake Wieclaw 38 yard field goal GOOD.

Our defense is playing well except for allowing the big play, don't know if its aggression or sloppiness.

Jake Wieclaw kickoff for 65 yards returned by Orwin Smith for no gain to the MiaFl 0 for a SAFETY.

Cue to the highlight of Sweeting getting beat deep against VT, that was ironic

DRIVE TOTALS: UM drive: 8 plays 66 yards, 02:39 UM FG

Ok so, what is Orwin doing here? He catches the ball MAYBE a yard deeper than the very first kick off. Why does the other returner tell him to stay in the end zone? Orwin knows he wants to return this ball as he should, this is on Golden. Orwin should have returned this ball, unless the special teams coach wanted him to no mater what. doubt it though.

Georgia Tech at 4:11

MIA

Sean Poole kickoff for 39 yards returned by Mike James for 11 yards to the GTech 48, tackled by Deon Hill and Isaiah Johnson.

It appears Mike James can not be tackled the first time you hit him, it hasn't happened yet.

DRIVE TOTALS: UM drive: 0 plays 0 yards, 00:08 UM KO

Miami (FL) at 4:03

MIA

1st and 10 at GT 48

Stephen Morris pass incomplete to Phillip Dorsett.

3rd time Morris checked to a quick pass and the rest of the team ran a run play, good thing they can't complete it correctly.

2nd and 10 at GT 48

Stephen Morris rush for 7 yards to the GTech 41, tackled by Shayon Green.

Our pass rush just vacates the middle here, I really don't know where Crenshaw goes here, he gets way to far outside and lets Morris run right where he should be.

3rd and 3 at GT 41

Stephen Morris pass complete to Phillip Dorsett for 8 yards to the GTech 33 for a 1ST down.

Dang, this is a really good throw in tight coverage. I have been very impressed by Morris so far.

1st and 10 at GT 33

Eduardo Clements rush for 4 yards to the GTech 29, tackled by Emmanuel Dieke.

I would love, for once, for a DT to push his man back and cause some disruption among the blockers and not get blocked one on one.

2nd and 6 at GT 29

Duke Johnson rush for 4 yards to the GTech 25, tackled by Shayon Green.

Their line seems to be having their way with our D-line.

3rd and 2 at GT 25

Stephen Morris pass complete to Duke Johnson for 4 yards to the GTech 21, tackled by Anthony Harrell and Rod Sweeting for a 1ST down.

The whole game our corners have lined up way off the receivers and this pass has been open all game, and yet we still get beat deep....hmmm.

1st and 10 at GT 21

Stephen Morris pass complete to Allen Hurns for 5 yards to the GTech 16, tackled by Rod Sweeting.

Same thing, Attaochu almost jumps this pass.

2nd and 5 at GT 16

Stephen Morris pass complete to Malcolm Lewis for 12 yards to the GTech 4, tackled by Brandon Watts for a 1ST down.

Isaiah Johnson, how do you miss this pass? Like, really, either tip the pass or make a big hit.

1st and Goal at GT 4

Mike James rush for 3 yards to the GTech 1, tackled by Izaan Cross.

Their O-line just moves our d-line out of the way.

2nd and Goal at GT 1

GEORGIA TECH penalty 0 yard substitution infraction accepted, no play.

Well when we give them a free play on the 1 yard line, odds are they are going to score.

2nd and Goal at GT 1

Mike James rush for 1 yard for a TOUCHDOWN.

and there ya go

Jake Wieclaw extra point GOOD.

2nd Quarter Play by Play

Miami (FL) at 15:00

MIA

Jake Wieclaw kickoff for 62 yards returned by Orwin Smith for 6 yards to the GTech 9, tackled by Eduardo Clements.

Someone missed a block, no one should be running untouched on kick off coverage.

DRIVE TOTALS: UM drive: 10 plays 48 yards, 04:03 UM TD

Georgia Tech at 14:54

MIA

1st and 10 at GT 9

Orwin Smith rush for 8 yards to the GTech 17, tackled by Eddie Johnson.

Decent blocking on the outside, but could have been better by the WR

2nd and 2 at GT 17

Robert Godhigh rush for 1 yard to the GTech 18, tackled by Kacy Rodgers II.

This is a give, bad read by Tevin, he had 4 guys around him

3rd and 1 at GT 18

MIAMI FL penalty 0 yard offside off-setting accepted, GEORGIA TECH penalty 0 yard holding off-setting, NO PLAY. accepted, no play.

Yay for penalties. We can't keep hurting our selves with safeties and penalties and sloppy tackling. Orwin Smith is such a good runner though.

3rd and 1 at GT 18

Tevin Washington rush for 3 yards to the GTech 21, tackled by Jimmy Gaines for a 1ST down.

Got the first down, good job by Tevin

1st and 10 at GT 21

MIAMI FL penalty 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct accepted, no play.

Another great play fake to get an open receiver, Tevin almost completes this ball anyway. The receiver needed one more step, good thing we got the penalty.

1st and 10 at GT 36

Tevin Washington pass complete to Tony Zenon for 57 yards to the MiaFl 7, tackled by Brandon McGee for a 1ST down.

DO IT AGAIN! Great pass by Tevin, wow, and if we can get Zenon running down the field on the outside no one should be able to keep up with him.

1st and Goal at MIA 7

Tevin Washington rush for a loss of 1 yard to the MiaFl 8, tackled by Eddie Johnson and Olsen Pierre.

This is a funny play, Tevin gets way to deep on the counter fake though, he ends up 4 yards behind the line before he even starts to run up field.

2nd and Goal at MIA 8

Orwin Smith rush for 8 yards for a TOUCHDOWN.

Of course, they run the exact same play to the other side and this time they get a touchdown. Great blocking on the perimeter.

David Scully extra point GOOD.

David Scully kickoff for 65 yards for a touchback.

5 yards deep, 2-2 on touchbacks.

DRIVE TOTALS: GT drive: 6 plays 91 yards, 03:31 GT TD

MIA

1st and 10 at MIA 25

Stephen Morris pass complete to Phillip Dorsett for 36 yards, fumbled, forced by Brandon Watts, recovered by GTech Jabari Hunt-Days at the GTech 43.

Hunt Days needs to jump on this football instead of trying to pick it up. But Dorsett is abusing us, at least Watts stuck with the play and caught up with the receiver to force the fumble.

DRIVE TOTALS: UM drive: 1 play 32 yards, 00:15 UM FUMB

Georgia Tech at 11:08

MIA

1st and 10 at GT 43

Tevin Washington pass incomplete.

The play by play says Tevin Washington pass incomplete....I guess he threw it forward. What I want to know is what on earth Tevin is actually doing throwing this ball at all. If its gonna be a bad play or you hesitate on the pitch, just dive forward and move on to the next play.

2nd and 10 at GT 43

Tony Zenon rush for 6 yards to the GTech 49, tackled by Brandon McGee.

This is a good run out of the pistol, we usually pass out of it and I think that's what Miami was expecting.

3rd and 4 at GT 49

Tevin Washington rush for 7 yards to the MiaFl 44, tackled by Thurston Armbrister for a 1ST down.

Same play to the other side, Good keep by Tevin and he hits the whole hard and runs for the first. This is straight out of Oregon's play book.

1st and 10 at MIA 44

Tevin Washington pass incomplete to Darren Waller.

Bad throw and a bad decision by Tevin on this pass. If you throw the ball to a receiver running a streak that was as covered as well as Waller was it has to be way outside or way out front. This was neither.

2nd and 10 at MIA 44

Robert Godhigh rush for 37 yards to the MiaFl 3, tackled by Deon Bush, MIAMI FL penalty 4 yard face mask accepted for a 1ST down.

Great run by Godhigh to stay in bounds and get some yards.

1st and Goal at MIA 3

MIAMI FL penalty 1 yard offside defense accepted, no play.

The DT almost times this right but it just a wee bit too early.

1st and Goal at MIA 2

Tevin Washington rush for 2 yards for a TOUCHDOWN.

Dive play by the QB, I can't remember us ever going outside on the goal line, no need to. No stink here!

David Scully extra point GOOD.

David Scully kickoff for 57 yards returned by Duke Johnson for 18 yards to the MiaFl 26, tackled by Deon Hill.

This kick off was 8 yards shy on the endzone, not sure what happened. 2-3 on touchbacks

Duke Johnson rush for 9 yards to the MiaFl 35, tackled by Izaan Cross.

Over pursuit on the back side allows an easy cut back for Duke.

2nd and 1 at MIA 35

Duke Johnson rush for 2 yards to the MiaFl 37, tackled by Jeremiah Attaochu for a 1ST down.

Attaochu said, "No, you will not gain anotha yard!" on that tackle.

1st and 10 at MIA 37

Duke Johnson rush for a loss of 1 yard to the MiaFl 36, tackled by Brandon Watts.

Brandon Watts made a great tackle on Duke, he had some room to run if he got out of that.

2nd and 11 at MIA 36

Stephen Morris pass complete to Duke Johnson for 2 yards to the MiaFl 38, tackled by Jemea Thomas.

Thomas with a solid open field tackle. Now we are starting to play.

3rd and 9 at MIA 38

Stephen Morris pass incomplete to Clive Walford, broken up by Rod Sweeting.

The TV just said we haven't allowed a point in the 2nd or 3rd quarter this year, wow. Solid pass coverage by Sweeting, while this should have been a catch it would not have been a first down.

4th and 9 at MIA 38

Dalton Botts punt for 41 yards, returned by Jamal Golden for 56 yards to the MiaFl 23, tackled by Dalton Botts.

I think Miami thought he signaled for a fair catch. He caught the punt running forward, dangerous. Can anyone else remember the last time Georgia Tech had a great punt return....I can't right now.

DRIVE TOTALS: UM drive: 5 plays 12 yards, 02:45 UM PUNT

Georgia Tech at 6:12

1st and 10 at MIA 23

Tony Zenon rush for a loss of 1 yard to the MiaFl 24, tackled by Ladarius Gunter.

Zenon got blown up as soon as he caught the pitch, bad blocking by the receiver

2nd and 11 at MIA 24

Tevin Washington pass incomplete to Robert Godhigh.

No Tevin, don't get back to doing this. Godhigh is WIDE open, you just need to throw him the ball and then let him go to work.

3rd and 11 at MIA 24

Tevin Washington pass complete to Tony Zenon for 17 yards to the MiaFl 7, tackled by Kacy Rodgers II for a 1ST down.

He could have thrown this to Zenon or Sims, Sims was running towards the end zone and probably would have walked in. Zenon was also open way earlier while Tevin was still in the pocket, I guess Tevin just did not see him.

1st and Goal at MIA 7

David Sims rush for 2 yards to the MiaFl 5, tackled by Gionni Paul.

Solid run, yards are tough on the goal line.

2nd and Goal at MIA 5

Orwin Smith rush for a loss of 5 yards to the MiaFl 10, tackled by Brandon McGee.

lets try not to go backwards. The blocking on the outside ruins the play, and this is just an awkward pitch by Tevin, he needs to do a better job of attacking and making a decision.

3rd and Goal at MIA 10

Tevin Washington rush for 10 yards for a TOUCHDOWN.

This is the same Jet sweep option that we have already run for some success, great new play that Miami was not ready for.

Two-point conversion attempt, Tevin Washington pass GOOD.

Wow great catch by Godhigh, Tevin probably could have just run this in. On the replay it seems no, Tevin had no where to run. Good job by the Refs to get the play right.

David Scully kickoff for 62 yards returned by Duke Johnson for 46 yards to the MiaFl 49, tackled by David Scully out-of-bounds.

Get the ball in the end zone and do not kick it to Duke Johnson please. 2-4

We tackled Mike James, no way. Our D-line didn't get moved this time.

Jemea Thomas makes a great interception here, this is a perfect catch by Thomas and a great play on the ball.

Same play we scored on, Easy yards

2nd and 5 at GT 22

Tony Zenon rush for 4 yards to the GTech 26, tackled by Tyrone Cornileus.

Same play again, it seemed to happen a little slow though, I think the snap was a little early so Tevin had to wait for Zenon to get to him. This is a good run by Zenon to make a man miss and get positive yards.

3rd and 1 at GT 26

Tevin Washington rush for 7 yards to the GTech 33, tackled by Jimmy Gaines for a 1ST down.

The DT almost tackles Tevin at the snap he shoots through there so fast. Laskey misses on his blocks a lot. The corner is able to shoot in there and take out Laskey and Godhigh in one swoop.

1st and 10 at GT 33

Tevin Washington pass incomplete to Orwin Smith, broken up by Jimmy Gaines.

Terrible pass by Tevin, don't do this. Throws across his body running the other way.

2nd and 10 at GT 33

Zach Laskey rush for 6 yards to the GTech 39, tackled by Jimmy Gaines.

Great blocking by the O-line. Laskey doesn't get touched for 4 yards.

Laskey runs past two defenders, not jukes or explodes past them, they just don't go for the tackle. Good read by Tevin.

2nd and 1 at GT 44

Zach Laskey rush for 21 yards to the MiaFl 35, tackled by Deon Bush for a 1ST down.

Same thing, just hand the ball off and let Laskey go to work. Uzzi makes this play though, he seals off the DT and prevents any leakage by the line backers, then moves up to the second level and lets Laskey break an even bigger run, what a great block.

1st and 10 at MIA 35

Tevin Washington rush for no gain to the MiaFl 35, tackled by Anthony Chickillo.

Tevin keeps this (correctly) and the linebacker (pitchman) shoots in the backfield and takes Tevin, pitch this! Give the linebacker one step towards him and just get the ball outside. Tevin has had trouble with this all season. When the linebackers attack the option instead of waiting, Tevin seems to not be able to make up his mind to pitch it or keep it.

1st and 10 at GT 35

Tony Zenon rush for 35 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. David Scully extra point GOOD.

Great read by Tevin, great pitch to Zenon as he cuts up field, and great blocking on the outside by the WR and Orwin. Also, Zenon is fast.

Mike James rush for 3 yards to the MiaFl 22, tackled by Quayshawn Nealy.

I think Attaochu took on 3 blockers on this play, and still didn't get pushed back. He might be my favorite defender we have.

2nd and 7 at MIA 22

Stephen Morris pass incomplete to Allen Hurns.

This pass is open, all game it has been, luckily they can't complete it. I guess we are challenging Stephen Morris to throw an accurate quick ball.

3rd and 7 at MIA 22

Stephen Morris pass complete to Phillip Dorsett for 8 yards to the MiaFl 30, tackled by Brandon Watts for a 1ST down.

Our pass rush got a little too wide and deep on this play and allows Morris to step up and make a throw, our defense is there but a little too late on the coverage. Watts could maybe come up on the receiver a little earlier.

1st and 10 at MIA 30

Duke Johnson rush for 18 yards to the MiaFl 48, tackled by Jemea Thomas and Isaiah Johnson for a 1ST down.

Miami goes no huddle and it prevents Hunt-Days from being in the correct position at the snap. Duke is too fast to not be ready for the play and Hunt-Days also goes under his blocker instead of over the top, no way he can get to Duke cutting it back up.

1st and 10 at MIA 48

Duke Johnson rush for a loss of 2 yards to the MiaFl 46, tackled by Jabari Hunt-Days.

This time he is ready (Hunt-Days), makes a great move to shed his blocker and wraps up behind the line, he has talent just needs to be more consistent.

Matt Goudis punt for 37 yards, returned by Jamal Golden for 28 yards to the GTech 40, tackled by Thurston Armbrister.

Play by play seems to be missing two plays, hhmmm. Good thing is the same thing happens on both plays. Attaochu gets great pressure off the edge, forces Morris to roll away and our defense forces a bad pass. A pass rush is so refreshing.

Tevin Washington pass complete to Jeff Greene for 58 yards to the MiaFl 2, tackled by Kacy Rodgers II for a 1ST down.

Tevin can officially throw a deep ball well. He throws the ball where Jeff can run under it, a little to the outside where the safety can't get to. Wow.

1st and Goal at MIA 2

Tevin Washington rush for 2 yards for a TOUCHDOWN.

Too easy, our line does a great job preventing any penetration on the goal line. Hard to see who it is but the left tackle takes the end and throws him into the middle of the pile and doesn't let anyone else get outside.

David Scully extra point GOOD.

David Scully kickoff for 64 yards returned by Duke Johnson for 19 yards to the MiaFl 20, tackled by Anthony Harrell.

Ok so at this point Georgia Tech has scored 36 straight points. Our defense has stopped Miami for a while now....can I stop watching?

Stephen Morris pass incomplete to Rashawn Scott.

Great coverage by Jemea Thomas, he was all over the streak route. No way the receiver catches this ball anywhere.

Mike James rush for 4 yards to the MiaFl 33, tackled by Quayshawn Nealy for a 1ST down.

It still didn't seem like we were ready at the snap. Also Hunt-Days has got to take a better angle on his pursuit.

Stephen Morris pass incomplete to Phillip Dorsett.

Attaochu almost gets a hand on this, I'm not sure if Morris thought he would be there. Forces a bad throw.

2nd and 10 at MIA 33

Duke Johnson rush for 3 yards to the MiaFl 36, tackled by Izaan Cross.

Big Izaan Cross does a great job moving down the line and making a tackle.

3rd and 7 at MIA 36

Stephen Morris pass complete to Davon Johnson for 22 yards to the GTech 42, tackled by Quayshawn Nealy for a 1ST down.

Not sure if this was man or zone, either way the receiver was wide open running in the secondary.

1st and 10 at GT 42

Duke Johnson rush for 1 yard to the GTech 41, tackled by Jeremiah Attaochu.

Hurry up offense and we should get a penalty here, we definitely had 12 men on the field and the 11 that were trying to play the ball were not ready for the play. This play is all Attaochu, he sets the edge, prevents the running back from cutting up, and chases him down on the outside.

So after review they said it didn't matter....no idea why

2nd and 9 at GT 41

Duke Johnson rush for 1 yard to the GTech 40, tackled by Jeremiah Attaochu.

Attaochu is just a beast in run support. Also Shawn Green does a great job of not getting sealed and forces Johnson to keep going outside where Attaochu has set the edge.

3rd and 8 at GT 40

Stephen Morris pass complete to Davon Johnson for 18 yards to the GTech 22 out-of-bounds, GEORGIA TECH penalty offside defense declined for a 1ST down.

Blitz was offsides, Stephen Morris just hung out, got away form the pressure and delivered a nice ball to an open receiver.

1st and 10 at GT 22

Stephen Morris pass complete to Mike James for 5 yards to the GTech 27, tackled by Jeremiah Attaochu and Izaan Cross, MIAMI FL penalty 10 yard IB on Dyron Dye accepted.

Good coverage downfield by the secondary, forces an underneath throw and GT gets lucky with the penalty.

1st and 15 at GT 27

I think the refs believe the ball was over his head, debatable to say the least, but Sweeting does a nice job of jumping the route.

2nd and 15 at GT 27

Woo, Hurns was open but the pass rush forces a very tough throw that Morris sails outside.

3rd and 15 at GT 27

Stephen Morris pass complete to Duke Johnson for 16 yards to the GTech 11, tackled by Anthony Williams and Jamal Golden for a 1ST down.

This sucks. I think that is the first screen Miami has thrown, the only reason I could see us stopping it is when our pass rush is too slow to begin with.

1st and 10 at GT 11

Stephen Morris pass incomplete to Phillip Dorsett, broken up by Jabari Hunt-Days.

Hunt-Days make this pick!! I thought he was there, Johnson also was right there on coverage.

James almost was able to cut this run all the way back but luckily our backside pursuit was there to stop him from scoring.

2nd and 2 at GT 25

Zach Laskey rush for 5 yards to the GTech 30, tackled by Gionni Paul for a 1ST down.

If Miami's line keeps giving Tevin the easy read and our offensive line can keep out the penetration we should keep rolling.

1st and 10 at GT 30

Tevin Washington rush for 2 yards to the GTech 32, tackled by Shayon Green.

Tevin gets too deep on this counter. I know you don't want to get cut down by any lineman just getting through the line but, he gets too deep and can't cut up as easily. He gets 6 yards but started 4 yards behind the line.

2nd and 8 at GT 32

Zach Laskey rush for 4 yards to the GTech 36, tackled by Gionni Paul.

I do like the weird B-Back counter-trap we run. We will hit that for a big play some time this season.

Tevin Washington pass incomplete.

on 3rd and 4 there is not a single receiver running a route within 25 yards of the line of scrimmage....what. Tevin has shown he can read a soft zone and throw to an open receiver, why don't we let him get us a first down with an easy throw?

Isaiah Johnson is late breaking on the inside post, man he has been late all day in pass coverage.

Great throw by Morris to take advantage of the corner blitz. Golden does a bad job trying to tackle Scott in open space and allows 10 extra yards, can't have that.

1st and 10 at MIA 48

2nd and 10 at GT 42

Duke Johnson rush for 2 yards to the GTech 40, tackled by Quayshawn Nealy and Jabari Hunt-Days.

Thank Dieke for this play, no one was there to make a tackle but he pushes his blocker back into Duke Johnson and forces Duke to stop and change direction, Miami's O-line definitely made some room for Johnson to run though.

3rd and 8 at GT 40

Stephen Morris pass complete to Rashawn Scott for 25 yards to the GTech 15, tackled by Rod Sweeting for a 1ST down.

Sweeting gets beat, though this is a great catch by Scott. We finally get a great pass rush, force Morris out of the pocket, and yet they still get a downfield completion. What happened to our secondary? Sweeting simply has to make a better play on the ball and not be out of position.

1st and 10 at GT 15

Mike James rush for 15 yards for a TOUCHDOWN.

Sweeting comes up on the run support, and just does not wrap up, Mike James is kind of a beast. But come one, get him to the ground please. This is a good play call though, put Mike James one-on-one with a corner and he just runs through him.

Jake Wieclaw extra point GOOD.

2nd and 5 at MIA 47

Orwin Smith rush for a loss of 2 yards to the MiaFl 49, tackled by Deon Bush.

This is great pursuit by Miami but Godhigh needs to get his man on the ground. Also Tevin has got to attack the pitch man more, he almost gets to Orwin before the corner does.

3rd and 7 at MIA 49

Tevin Washington sacked by Anthony Chickillo for a loss of 5 yards to the GTech 46.

I think Tevin pulled the ball down too early. He had a huge pocket, its ok to wait and move through your progressions.

This is a great punt, I have no idea why Dorsett returned this, oh yeah, that's right, he is faster than everyone on our team. And I wish Sean Poole knew there was a block in the back before he got shellacked trying to make the tackle. Do you think Dorsett knew he was about to hit the punter, it seems like he loaded up for this one.

No way, they throw it to Dorsett. Is it telling that the safety responsible for the over the top coverage who was late immediately goes out of the game? How do you allow that pass on 3rd and 8 with only one receiver to your side.

1st and 10 at MIA 33

Stephen Morris pass incomplete to Clive Walford, GEORGIA TECH penalty 15 yard personal foul on Jabari Hunt-Days accepted for a 1ST down.

Hunt-Days is only a freshman and he makes freshman mistakes some times. Its ok. I honestly think he thought that the receiver had the ball.

Once again, Miami hustles to the line, we aren't ready at all, our d-line gets shoved around, Sweeting misses another tackle, and Isaiah Johnson saves a touchdown. If you want a play that sums up the entire game, this is that play.

Man you would love to see the right tackle, Tyler Kidney, get just a little bit more on the DE. I mean, one more yard is all we need. It's a tough block on Chickillo because that man is a beast but, you would love to stay on your feet more and block him.
