Updates will be added to this thread in the comments section as LOIs are received in the morning while Joey and Nate are LIVE from The Edge Center inside of Bobby Dodd Stadium in scenic Midtown Atlanta. Or just follow us and all the action on Twitter -- @FTRSRecruiting!
Y'all betta hide yo' recruits, hide yo commits, and hide yo scholarship offers 'cause they poachin' ERRBODY out here!
Wednesday, February 1st has been on an awful lot of college football fans' calendars for a long time now, as it is the first day that kids can sign Letters of Intent (LOIs) to legally commit to play football for NCAA institutions. To cover Georgia Tech's coverage, we'll be LIVE from the Edge Center starting at 7am Wednesday morning. To get prepared for the day though, here's the state of our current recruiting situation:
Signed a LOI (read: early enrollment)
3* ATH (QB) Dennis Andrews, 5'11", 190lb, Tallahassee, FL
Solid commitments (the guys who are committed and have told us this and actually aren't going other places):
4* ATH (QB) Justin Thomas, 5'11", 175lb, Prattville, AL
4* DE Francis Kallon, 6'5", 260lb, Lawrenceville, GA
3* ATH (BB/LB) Marcus Allen, 6'2", 210lb, Hilliard, FL
3* WR/DB Anthony Autry, 6'2", 180lb, Norcross, GA
3* OL Freddie Burden, 6'3", 290lb, Statesboro, GA
3* DE Rod Chungong, 6'3", 250lb, Olney, MD
3* DT Pat Gamble, 6'5", 275lb, Carrollton, GA
3* S Lynn Griffin, 6'0", 206lb, Jacksonville, FL
3* ATH (WR/LB) Travin Henry, 6'4", 228lb, Adele, GA
3* OL Chase Roberts, 6'3", 285lb, Norcross, GA
3* LB Tyler Stargel, 6'3", 250lb, Gulf Shores, AL
3* ATH (WR) Michael Summers, 6'1", 190lb, Statesboro, GA
3* DB D.J. White, 5'10", 180lb, McDonough, GA
2* DT Adam Gotsis, 6'4", 290lb, Melbourne, Australia (might possibly be the greatest 2* signing of the year by anyone)
2* P Ryan Rodwell, 6'2", 215lb, DeLand, FL
Otherwise (the reason tomorrow is exciting) -- after The Jump....
3* CB Antonio Crawford -- If you haven't heard, he flipped from us to Miami, and will officially be one of about 7 or 8 guys in that class who is looking to play CB. Good luck to this guy when it comes to seeing the field. /kindabitter
4* DT Dalvin Tomlinson -- Currently between us, Alabama, and uga, by which I mean us and Alabama. He's reportedly made his decision, but isn't telling anyone until Wednesday. All 3 schools have sent him a Letter of Intent in hopes that he'll sign it, and popular theories stated that if he got one from Alabama, he'd sign it and join the Tide. We'll see how it all ends up, but it doesn't currently look good for the Jackets.
3* OL Will Adams -- Kid's been committed to us since the summer (and still is, officially), but when offered a last minute visit by Auburn this past weekend, he took it. Then he turned them down, affirming his commitment to Georgia Tech, causing Georgia Tech to cancel a visit for another 3* OL that's committed to Rutgers. Then he changed his mind again and actually visited them, and upon leaving, was reportedly a "coin flip" between us and Auburn. He's said that he's still officially committed to Tech, but now it's looking more and more like he'll sign with Auburn, according to Kelly Quinlan. One of the more disappointing stories surrounding GT recruiting this year.
3* LB Beau Hankins -- He was a last-minute visitor with us last weekend and really enjoyed his visit. He's put us up there as one of his favorites with Arkansas and Penn State among others, and Quinlan expects there's reason to think we're the favorite at this point and that we'll be getting a letter with his signature on Wednesday morning. Time will tell though. Hankins won't make-or-break the class, but he'd be a nice addition nonetheless, and it's always a thing of pride saying you had a commitment who was wanted by a top-10 team in the country.
3* LB Harding Harper -- There has been some rumbling about this kid. He's pretty high on Arkansas and some thought he might be a package deal with Hankins wherever they decided to go. However, none of that is true, and he doesn't even have an offer from Tech according to sources. So if anyone says anything about him to you, tell them they're wrong and punch them in the face, as Saint Johnson has taught us.
Here's to hoping that National Signing Day is good to the Tech football program. We have a good recruiting class so far, but retaining Adams and signing Hankins and Tomlinson would make for a fantastic Wednesday for our program. There are more possibilities for signing in the next couple weeks, after NSD, but that's for another time. We'll be with you at 7am tomorrow to give live updates on whose letters have arrived!
