2011 Sun Bowl: Georgia Tech vs. Utah, Who Are These Utes?

Last week I did a quick blurb of who we could potentially play from the Pac-12 in the Sun Bowl. As expected, the Utah Utes took the invite from the conference. To end this bowl losing streak, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have the opportunity to defeat the team that started the losing streak. We must come full circle to start anew. We'll call it our football circle of life.

Who are these Utes and what did they do to get to the Sun Bowl?

Utah finished the season with a record of 7-5 (4-5 Pac-12) and finished 4th in the Pac-12 South Division. Their non-conference schedule consisted of teams Montana State (W 27-10), BYU (W 54-10), and Pittsburgh (W 26-14). By the end of October, Utah was having a very average year, sitting at 3-4 overall when something must have clicked and they were able to mass amass a four-game winning streak with victories over teams that the outside public would expect them to beat: Oregon State, Arizona, and UCLA. However, the Utes ended the season very poorly with a defeat at home against the Colorado Buffaloes who are 3-10 this year.

Tell me something you know, or want to know, about the Utah Utes.
