Catching Up With Georgia Tech Basketball

With football season over, we must face the inevitable and focus on a sport we have all chosen to ignore for the past few months...Georgia Tech basketball. All stats are pulled thanks to SCACCHoops.com

To say the Yellow Jackets have been struggling would be putting things lightly. As we head into the ACC season, Tech has managed to post just a 7-6 record which include losses to Kennesaw State, Syracuse, Northwestern, Georgia and Siena , after last night, we can add Charlotte to the list. The Yellow Jackets lost a tough 2OT match against the 49ers in Atlanta.

Three players are averaging double figures this season in Iman Shumpert (15.8), Glen Rice Jr (13.2), and Brian Oliver (11.4). It's a quick drop off until we hit the 4th player in Mfon Udofia who is averaging 7.8ppg. Sharing the ball is also an issue as only Iman and Glen Rice average 3 assists per game.

If you believe that Georgia Tech is the only ACC team going through major issues this year, then you are wrong. Sadly, other teams are also suffering through a dismal start to the season. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons for instance have posted losses at the hands of the likes of Winthrop and Presbyterian, yes, the Blue Hose. Even Virginia has been blown out by the likes of Seattle and Iowa State.

Royal Rumble for the ACC cellar anyone?

Fortunately, minimal people remember November/December basketball games and if IF Georgia Tech can figure out which way is up during this rough stretch/freefall, the opportunity is there to fix the season but time will run out quickly. 70 Days until Selection Sunday....

The Jackets open up the ACC schedule on the road against Boston College on January 8th and then travel to Clemson on January 11th. Their first home conference game will be against North Carolina.

Go Jackets!
