Weekend Recap: ACC Kickoff Style

Quite a bit happened over the weekend that DID NOT involve Erin Andrews, Tim Tebow's "unanimous" All-SEC award, Tim Tebow's virginity, or the SEC. I do like the Tebow-Child but I am getting sick of hearing about him and his off the field accomplishments. Please bring football back.

Sunday was the start of the ACC's Media Kickoff. Georgia Tech was well represented by both Derrick Morgan and Jonathan Dwyer keeping the GT youth movement flowing. It's been a very long long weekend in the library but here are some highlights from Day 1.

  • CJ Spiller, in his first year as a full time starter, has a Heisman campaign out. It comes in the form of a life-size poster. I can't find a picture, but it seems as if every media member at the event has made a comment about it. In the words of Chili over at Block-C: "it strikes me as funny how Joey Harrington’s Heisman campaign began with a giant advertisement in the middle of Times Square, New York City. CJ’s began at the Bountyland Quikstop in Seneca [SC]."
  • A lot of players were asked about other players and teams. Of course, you are going to get the same canned response: They are a really good, smart team. They are tough, blah, blah blah.  On Dwyer and Spiller both competing for the Heisman, Wake Forest DL John Russell said: "With the type of season I think they'll have, I wouldnt be surprised to see Spiller and Dwyer going to NY." So yeah, really no meat in anything there.
  • Clearly, the main event of the first half of the season is Clemson vs. Georgia Tech (Dwyer vs. Spiller). You can read Bird's post on that game here.
  • Both Dwyer and Morgan are not overlooking Jacksonville State.
  • Everyone is still picking VPI to win the Coastal. I mean, when you keep on winning, I guess its just a default answer. But we shall see in October!

Well, those are a few of the highlights I saw scrolling through the twitter feeds yesterday.  If you want more in-depth and rapid notes, I suggest you look up the following media members on twitter:
