2012 Top 10 Plays: (3) Jemea Thomas's One-Handed INT vs FSU

Bob Donnan-US PRESSWIRE

#3 in our countdown was probably the catch of the year for anyone wearing a Tech jersey...and interestingly enough, it came on defense.

Countdown to Kickoff: 40 Days...

The Situation: After being down 21-6 at the half, Georgia Tech has scored 9 straight points to pull within one possession. Time is running out, but Florida State has the ball with 3rd and 10 at the Tech 48.

The Play: FSU Quarterback E.J. Manuel takes the snap in the shotgun and drops to pass. Under pressure from his right, he turns and fires to his left towards 6'5", 240lb Kelvin Benjamin, who's facing single coverage from 5'10", 195lb Jemea Thomas. Despite the major size disadvantage, Thomas is able to use his body to shield Benjamin, more or less boxing him out, and get himself into position to make a play on the ball. Thomas times his leap perfectly and is able to pull the ball down with only one hand. It was easily one of the first plays that came to mind when I thought of doing a "Top 10" list.

The Aftermath: Tech was able to manage two first downs on the ensuing drive, but with about 1:10 left on the clock and the Jackets out of timeouts, the Seminoles intercepted Tevin Washington to put the game on ice.

Where does this play rank on the season's radar for you?
