Georgia Tech Football @ Miami Hurricanes Game Preview

With their backs against the wall, the Yellow Jackets now head to Coral Gables to take on the #14 Miami Hurricanes.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets take the long flight to Miami this Friday in hopes of regaining the momentum that they established during the first 3 games (6 game ACC win streak snapped). The Yellow Jackets dealt with an upsetting loss last week, as Bobby Dodd Stadium saw three Georgia Tech turnovers and a flat spread-option offense. The Jackets need to bounce back this weekend, or else they'll fall even further behind in the Coastal standings.

The Miami Hurricanes have gone 4-0 so far this season, with an upset against the Florida Gators in their second game of the season. The 14th-ranked Hurricanes have not had much of a challenge since the September 7th upset against Florida. Honestly, Miami outperformed the Gators, yet left many questions to be answered about this Miami team. Florida turned the ball over quite a bit and has not had the best start to their season. Is Miami really as good as some think?

Well, Stephen Morris has not played a full game since the Florida game. In his past two, he has only attempted 20 passes, leaving both games with an injury. Against USF last week, they turned the ball over four times. Furthermore, they rank 9th in the ACC in 3rd down conversion, 9th in red-zone performance, and 13th in penalties. These numbers stand up against a flat Florida team and three easier opponents, but will not earn wins in the ACC.

Three of the next four games for the Jackets will be on the road. Unlike Miami, the Jackets have already been tested in the ACC and have high hopes to continue success this weekend. The Tech offense is ranked 10th nationally in rushing, lead by senior B-back David Sims. Sims ranks 10th in the ACC in rushing with 62.0 yards/game. The Jackets have surprised fans so far this season with their successful 3rd down percentage of .589, which ranks 5th in the ACC. The defense has been very successful as well, ranking in the top 15th nationally in scoring, red-zone, total, and first down and rush defense.

While the numbers stack up for the Yellow Jackets, this game will be a tough one. Miami has had Paul Johnson's number lately, winning the past four games. Last season's overtime loss in Atlanta is one to remember from the 2012 season. Furthermore, if you include the 2009 Orange Bowl, the Jackets are 0-3 historically in Sun Life Stadium. All steaks must be broken at some point, and the Jackets have an opportunity to kill a few birds with one stone this weekend with a win on the road.

The game begins at 3:30 EST on ESPNU. It can also be heard by the Voice of the Yellow Jackets, Brandon Gaudin on IMG Sports Radio, WYAY 106.7, Sirius/XM 85 and online at RamblinWreck.com.
